Me too
Here’s what CT Tiger Den had to say about him. He’s striking out a good amount in Lo A and Hi A, so he might be a reliever to watch.

why did he fall to the 25th round in the draft?
because he was hurt for part of college? I was hoping he’d be going to the AFL, oh well.

Turner has been lights out this past month
remember hoping his ERA would get below 4 at Lakeland, now at under 3. Hey David, I know you hate the thought of him with Tigers 2011, but why not throw the same limited innings for Detroit instead Erie or Toledo? Porcello was how old, when Jim Price was making this same argument. Also, he was awesome against major leaguers last spring.
david will make the same statement i'm sure:
Major league innings aren’t minor league innings. They’re a lot more strenuous, players try to do more, etc.
Further, you want him to develop. When he’s in the majors, he’s not developing, he’s using his stuff just trying to survive.
We need to stop rushing players.

Exactly
I’d consent to a couple spot starts in Detroit in September. For all the brouhaha over it, moving Oliver to the majors for a start or two wasn’t horrible. It taught him the importance of “breaking ball”.
Besides, I want a devastating starter, a third ace for our rotation, not another Porcello.

That's exactly what the Tigers need, a no. 2 or 3 starter
With a pitching staff and rotation that rank 11th in the league in ERA, upgrading the rotation has to be the top priority this off season. Cliff Lee may be too expensive, but there are other free agents and trades to explore. Arroyo, Pavano, Kuroda, Webb, Lilly, DeLaRosa,

and keep the good eye on Brandon Webb this month if he comes back in Arizona
could be a bargain

I bet he costs more than we think he should when it's all said and done
but maybe it’ll still be worth it. webb is one of the guys I plan to write about in the offseason, for sure.

I agree w/ Kurt
If Webb came extremely cheap it’s one thing but I bet he gets between $5 to $10MM without any hesitation. That is a lot of money for someone who has not pitched in a long time. Don’t forget he has had to rework much of his mechanics too.
If anything I’m leaning hevily towards Ted Lilly. He still has a decent strikeout ratio and he could help break up the all right handed roation.
Verlander/Lilly/Scherzer/Porcello is a solid start.
With Oliver and Galarraga fighting for the five spot.
right now i'm thinking 8 + incentives
that said if the tigers did want him they are experienced in creating contracts that protect the team and reward the player for his healthy contribution.

Webb's agent says he wants $ 7.5 to 8 mil as a base salary on an incentive laden contract
That would be in the Ben Sheets/ Eric Bedard range. The clubs that signed those deals can’t be too pleased with the results. Then, there’s Peavy who sputtered, showed flashes of his old greatness, and was shut down for the season.
Webb would be on the short list of FA starters for anyone looking for pitching (and that’s everyone). He’s one of the best on the market if he’s healthy. He’s supposed to try a comeback this season. All eyes are on him.

Exactly what Kurt said
I know you don’t get to much in depth reports on turner because many of you are geographically challenged. I’ve had the pleasure of watching six of his starts though.
From his first Lakeland start to last nights he has pulled a complete 180. Not even statistically speaking. Sure he is allowing less runs, giving up less hits and striking out more.
He has shown a lot more confidence in his secondary pitches though. Last night he seemed to start off more batters with his curve or change. He also did not shy away from back to back breaking balls. I’m guessing that his recent dominating ways have a lot to do with this.
It is imperative to keep him down on the farm AT THE VERY LEAST until 2012. Need a reason? Look at Porcello and Miller.
It was an absute pleasure watching turner in Lakeland.

You see this Kurt?
Can you say “Jacob Turner Editor”?
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. Since they're all gone, I'm taking Raburn and hoping the pattern holds.
Knew I didn't like Tim Tuefal
was a twinkie in the early 80’s, remember I didn’t like him at bat, must have hurt tigers more than once.
