Ok, let's make predictions......
I'm getting antsy with the lack of real rumors, so let's just start some. Significant, insignificant, it doesn't matter. I'm just ready to talk specifics, and with the new year, it just seems right. I'll start (and I'm a little nervous, never posted like this before)- The first new Tiger of 2011 will be...........Joe Beimel. Not exciting, but one of their potential needs. So, what do you say?

The sheer number of free agents mean your odds stink
But I like your odds.
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. Since they're all gone, I'm taking Raburn and hoping the pattern holds.
it's why there is no money riding on it
but i actually didn’t think it was a horrible guess. and it shows how bored i was this morning.
A few days ago, I'd have said Zach Miner....
Beimel would be a candidate, as would a few other LHRP’s. Ohman, Reyes, Capuano (a swingman), Tim Byrdak, Randy Flores. Brian Fuentes would be a seriously good addition to the bullpen, but he wants better than Benoit money, and he’d only come to the Tigers in rare circumstances- such as all his options falling through so he takes a one year deal, and DD decides to actually replace Coke in the bullpen. There’s no evidence of either factor being present thus far.
I’d like to see a Matt Garza or Wandy Rodriguez trade, but I’m not holding my breath. A more likely scenario is Brad Penny.
If you survived 2003, you can get through this!
I'd be OK with Penny
While I’d like to see us sign another reliever, I’d rather have a starter first.
But at what cost would it be a good deal.
I like the idea of having Penny, but think he will want a 2yr contract at about 15 mill and i think that is too much money to give him.I would take him for a year at 6or 7 though.
have you heard those figures?
if so, i’d agree with you, probably more than i’d want to go. and pretty ambitious from him, it seems. one year, though, and he’d be my choice.

I'd be happy with Beimel
I’d also consider Ohman, as I’ve mentioned before.
Perhaps an even more awesome addition would be swingman Bruce Chen.

i remember a lynn henning article
where he said chen would be an ideal fit. i also remember being less than enthused about that. i think i would be more ok with it now, i guess. as a swingman i suppose you could do worse. capuano is along the same lines, but i guess maybe i put too much stock in the fact chen pitched in the AL already, capuano hasn’t. i’d still pick penny as my choice for starter, but i think the tigers wait the rotation question out longer, which is why i went beimel for my nothing-riding-on-it prediction.

At this point Capuano would make the most sense
If the Tiger add Capuano it would seam to be a good fit for both.He wants to be a starter, but he can be a reliever. He is a lefty and would proably come at a reasonable price. They could sign him and let him compete in spring training with Coke and Gallarraga to see who wins the #4 and #5 spots in the rotation. The loser between him and Coke would go to the bullpen and would be avalible to start should there be an injury or someone is not getting the job done.My other option would be Durbin but he is a righty, but would do the same as Capuano.
Who has a date for pitchers and catchers?
It’s usually a sweet Valentine’s Day present for me. Six weeks is a good time to begin a countdown!
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. Since they're all gone, I'm taking Raburn and hoping the pattern holds.
Many thanks!

Penny's numbers don't look that great, and he reminds me of Zoom injury wise.
He is hurt so much i would hate to count on him, think we would be better off with Durbin.Dubin would be cheaper and can also be a reliever, would seem to make more sense to me.
i think i agree on both counts
and i’m starting to rethink my original prediction of beimel. you just don’t hear much about more bullpen help. although i think they’ll still do something there, too.

I'd rather have a FA than trade for a marginal starter
If Coke plays out (and I agree that there’s not a “strong” chance of this), then we’ve traded prospects for a starter who’s really no better than our #5.
I don’t imagine that Gorzo would be expensive, but I’m sure you’d need at least one top 5 guy in the deal.
I’d rather sign a couple of FA starters like Penny and/or Duscherer. Both have a high upside than Gorzo and would just cost a little cash (of which we should have plenty right now.)

all depends on the "prospect' of course
plenty of players would be worth giving up for a decent 5th starter. just no one in the top 15 or so, for sure. but you have to think not just about what that starter can give you, but also that he can give oliver/turner more time if needed, and provide depth in case of injury. or in case this verlander fellow doesn’t pan out.
I dunno, man.
I took a closer look at his stats, and that ain’t no #5 starter. Not on our staff, anyway.
who are you talking about?
gorzellany? when i clicked on the link it was garza’s stats. and you’re right, garza wouldn’t be the tiger’s 5th starter. gorzellany, maybe. but i’d still vote penny.
I'd give up Iorg for a no. 5 starter
or Ciriaco, or …
If you survived 2003, you can get through this!
by the way, as a wrap up
my prediction was wrong. way off. and i apologize.
Don't worry about it
If we always apologized when we got stuff wrong, my sig would just say “I’m sorry”.
