ALCS Game 2 Preview: Tigers at Rangers
Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers
Probable Pitchers:
Monday October 10, 4:19p:
RHP Max Scherzer (1-0, 1.23, 7 K, 4 BB)
Hitter to Fear: Ian Kinsler (4 for 13, 1 3B, 3 RBI)
Hitter to Fail: Josh Hamilton (2 for 12, 3 K)
at
LHP Derek Holland (1-0, 1.42, 2 K, 2 BB)
Hitter to Fear: Delmon Young (6 for 12, 2 HR, 2 RBI)
Hitter to Fail: Miguel Cabrera (0 for 3, 2 K)
What to Watch For:
1. With Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez headed off the ALCS roster after injuring his ankle on Saturday, Delmon Young heads back onto the roster.
Young was left off after a left oblique strain that occurred in Game 5 of the ALDS and the Tigers were unsure when he would be able to return. With Ordonez out for the remainder of the postseason, the Tigers had no choice and no other options than to bring back Young.
He is playing in left field and batting 3rd for today's game.
2. With the rainout last night, the extra day gives Max Scherzer an extra days rest. Scherzer was slated to start last night after pitching in relief just two days before in New York. Scherzer has had great success against the Rangers in his career. In 6 games, he is 3-0 with a 3.41 ERA and 31 strikeouts.
On Deck:
Tuesday October 11, 8:05p:
Colby Lewis at Doug Fister
Wednesday October 12, 4:19p:
Matt Harrison at Rick Porcello

Is this a case of....
“he’s good to go” or “OH GOD I HOPE HE SURVIVES THE GAME”?
According to Jason Beck they are starting Dirks if DY isn’t ready. The fact that they are throwing that out there I guess answers my question.

They said hes playing through pain.
But Dirks would replace him if he’s too sore during pre-game warmups.

good to go!
Leyland said Young is good to go and will start. Said he is swinging fine.

how exciting
planning on attending games 3 and 5 in detroit. hoping we win today and the crowd can be very excitable tomorrow rather than nervous.
i hope DY is good to go. he isn’t a savior but he gets more respect than Dirks is likely to get.
GO TIGS! 3 hours til first pitch!
Jackson 8, Santiago 4, Young 7, Cabrera 3, Martinez DH, Raburn 9, Peralta 6, Avila 2, Inge 5.
(Yes.)
Put another format
1. Austin Jackson, CF
2. Ramon Santiago, 2B
3. Delmon Young, LF
4. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
5. Victor Martinez, DH
6. Ryan Raburn, RF
7. Jhonny Peralta, SS
8. Alex Avila, C
9. Brandon Inge, 3B
Max Scherzer, P
Curious that Ramon bats second, rather than Raburn.
Gotta keep that bunting option open!

This town's going nuts today
For those who aren’t local and/or football fans, the undefeated Lions are home for Monday Night Football against the Bears this evening. The Free Press front page today:

Unfortunately, Drew Sharp shows up at the bottom to ruin what would otherwise be collectable.

For years I have secretly wished that the Pistons had been called the Bears so that they could use this headline in Detroit
This is a better way to get there.

Detroit is actually pretty lucky sports-wise
The names of the major teams are pretty good, and with the exception of those ugly teal Pistons uniforms the logos and colors don’t suck either. No mustard, no weird shade of purple, no cartoony faces. All pretty decent.

I'm so glad they got rid of those things
Although I still have something of a nostalgic love of them, just because that was what Grant Hill spent his Pistons’ career in….

I had to steal that for Facebook.

In a Tiger fan's world, the Tigers go 162-0 and the White Sox go 0-162.

Tweets- Delmon's oblique injury isn't an oblique injury
Just gonna throw these in here, for those that don’t tweet or don’t want to go back to pick out the quotes on Delmon….
beckjason Jason Beck
#Tigers trainer Kevin Rand says Delmon Young is set to start. Main question with injury is throwing, and he did that fine today.
Leyland Quotes: Delmon is playing for sure
DKnobler DKnobler
Leyland says now not game-time. Delmon “is fine, will play”
jcrasnick Jerry Crasnick
Jim Leyland on Delmon: "He’s feeling pretty good. Did not swing yesterday.’’ Says Delmon is fine, will play and bat third. #Tigers
Buster_ESPN Buster Olney
Leyland on Delmon: “He’s feeling pretty good… Did all kinds of workouts… We’ve already made the decision… he will play.”
Tom_Gage Tom Gage
how did Young’s strained oblque heal so fast for #Tigers? “Because it’s not really an oblique,” said Leyland. “Little different location.”
matthewbmowery Matthew B. Mowery
Leyland: " Its not really the oblique-oblique. They didn’t think it was too serious to begin with." On Delmon
and a funny one on the rainout…
Chris_Iott Chris Iott
by sbnationdetroit
Leyland on the, um, rainout: “I guess down here if somebody buys an umbrella they cancel school” #Tigers #Rangers #ALCS
matthewbmowery Matthew B. Mowery
Leyland: only other options besides Young were pinch runners. No ideal fit
DKnobler DKnobler
Leyland says rainout could be advantage to Tigers, because of Delmon return, and extra day of rest for Scherzer
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
The rainless rainout is looking like a Tiger blessing
Sure, Ogando can pitch, but Max gets an extra day AND we get Delmon which we might not have had time to evaluate for a game last night.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I am so freaking nervous. And I should be spending all my waking time studying for an exam on Wednesday from now when I got home from class until I go to sleep. Yet I know the Tigers will distract me.

Weird lineup
I do not understand why Delmon can’t bat second and Miggy third (like they tried Saturday sans Delmon)…. bump everybody up one and move Ramon down to 8th. Arrgh, Leyland, why must you aggravate me so?

I'm quite ok with Ramon hitting 2nd
quite frankly, he looks more like a 2-hole hitter right now than anyone we’ve had all season.
Yeah, that is true
I just kinda wanted to see what would happen if DY was hitting in the two-hole followed by Cabrera third in the very first inning… if anything, it would put a lot of pressure on their pitcher right off the bat.

Jack - haven't you learned this season not to question Leyland's lineups.
The Tigers are 4 games from the World Series so the old guy is doing something right.
I put away the rubber brick I used to throw at my TV during Tiger games in April and May and most of June. I promised myself I couldn’t use it til Basketball season at Michigan State when Izzo lineups and rotations drive me equally nuts.
But that’s another story
Or the team is working in spite of the old guy's lineups
In which case one should probably reconsider their opinion of how much a manager can impact his team tactically…

Izzo doesn't drive me as crazy
Mostly because he can sub guys back in if he’s using a lineup he doesn’t like and usually he realizes what the hell he is doing wrong matchup-wise.
But yeah, I KNOW, rationally, I shouldn’t be questioning Leyland’s lineups, because somehow, despite their weird idiocy, they’re working. I just feel like I need to complain about something, for my own sanity. If I just kind of dumbly sat here and nodded as Mark Schareth comes out to pitch in the seventh inning (or whatever) and didn’t complain I might as well just stop watching.

Ramon looks more comfortable at the plate than practicully anybody
"i think it will be mostly feast the rest of the year,"
This is not good news
