Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Via Twitter, Jason Beck lets us know the Tigers have a pitcher in mind to bridge the gap (if needed) between Max Scherzer and Joaquin Benoit.

Look for Rick Porcello out of the bullpen tonight if Tigers need a reliever before 7th inning. Leyland says that's his plan.

If you were thinking Justin Verlander was a relief option in a possible game 7...think again.

Via Buster Olney of ESPN:

Jim Leyland: If you see Verlander pitch again this season, it'll be a good thing, because it'll be in the World Series.

I love it

Porcello available = no Perry, no Penny, no Al Al, no Schlereth

Coke, maybe against a lefty or two.

TEX has two lefties at the bottom of the order now, with Murphy and Endy Chavez.
Six righties and three lefties in their lineup.

We are going to need Justin Verlander to start the WS.

Right call, but....

Why does Leyland keep laying his cards on the table ahead of time? I don’t see the point of telling Texas which pitchers they should prepare for.

I doubt it makes much of a difference.

I’m sure Texas has scouted the entire pitching staff every which way and back already.

They have already done this
I don’t see the point of telling Texas which pitchers they should prepare for.

Teams aren’t going to bend over backwards preparing for a relief pitcher that they have already seen earlier in the series. The two guys they are going to prepare for are Max Scherzer and Doug Fister.

He was asked about it, Buster Olney tweeted the following:

Leyland re: transparency of decisions, like announcing no Verlander Game 7. “I just don’t think there are a lot of secrets. Maybe I am dumb.”

I think Leyland does this so players have to preform.

There is nobody behind you, tonight is your night to be a hero.
