We get 2 homers from Miguel and score 5 runs ... and it means nuthin'
I’m bummed
Justin can now let the fungus grow back on his shower shoes.
So annoying
If I had been told we would score 5 runs today, I’d be getting geared up for tomorrow.

our chances were those 11 innings games..What if….
but this hurts in hindsight we had an amazing season, 1st AL central crown and gr8 nucleus of SP for next year. Cant wait for next year.

Or their fans. I don’t think I could take it.
In a Tiger fan's world, the Tigers go 162-0 and the White Sox go 0-162.
I'm sad it ends this way
But I’m proud of the team. We exceeded everyone’s expectations for how we would do. We didn’t choke away our division lead and we didn’t give up even when things didn’t look so great. This was a fantastic season with a less than fantastic ending.
P.S. I’m planning on trying to write some sort of “Off-Season Shopping List” type post over the next week.

I'm not much of a rosterbator
If Ilitch really does want to spend money on players, I’d expect it to be one, not two. I hardly believe that saying “SIGN REYES, PHILLIPS AND WILSON,” is a good strategy.
Mostly, I want to do this because I used to do this at the end of the seasons for The Maneater the two years I was at Mizzou. I would go through each team and write up their needs and how to fill them. I always liked doing it, so I felt like doing it again.

I never watched the final out of the 2006 World Series
Actually, I turned the TV off once Polanco came to the plate with 2 out. The World Series was the first time I’d ever seen Polanco and he was struggling so badly that I had no faith in him at all. To this day, I still don’t know what he did to not make the final out.

Such a great year.
Most I’ve felt attached to the Tigers ever. Even more than ’09, and especially more than ’06 and ’07 when I was still pretty young. Watched every single game this year just about, and this is the toughest loss I have ever seen.
@Kyle_ftl
Not the toughest, unfortunately it was a slow, painful death
But nonetheless, I’ll remember the good things about this team moreover.

When I think about all the things I personally experienced (especially since the calendar year started with intense baseball heartbreak for me)
Spring Training
Meeting Miguel Cabrera, Magglio Ordoñez, Brandon Inge and MANY more
Going to a gazillion Mud Hens games
Falling in love with a mid-level prospect
Seeing an inside-the-park home run AND a walk-off grand slam in person (at Toledo)
Being there to see the Tigers clinch the pennant
Being there for Verlander’s 24th win
Wow, have I had an experience this season. I hope to see as much next year (minus the heartbreak)

I'd say Game 163 was more painful
But this sucked as well

Game 163 was tough, but I invested so much more time into the team this season.
In ‘09, I was still a huge huge huge Tigers fan, and I think that’s when I started lurking this website and stuff… but this year was just…. this was the closest I have ever been to the Tigers. It was really tough to watch Detroit lose tonight for me. I don’t know how else I can explain it right now. Toughest loss for me. Can’t wait for next year, though. I really hope they can do something to improve the top of the order. Who knows. Maybe we’re a Boesch bash away from greatness next year.
@Kyle_ftl

My ESPN iPhone app now says next Tigers game is 4/5 against the Red Sox. That’s a long wait.

you guys had a great season
The Tigers are such a well-coached, resilient team with tons upon tons of history and dignity and class, and you guys will be back in the middle of it all next year and for years to come. Make no mistake: the road to the AL pennant goes through Detroit and we fans of other teams know that. So be proud.

No matter what, I'm still proud of this team
the 2011 Detroit Tigers did something the team hadn’t done in 24 years, and made it within 2 games of going to the World Series. DD and Leyland did a hell of a job getting this team where it is today.

Yes really
and if you told me at the start of the season that JV would start 2-3, have a No Hitter and end up finishing 24-5, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. And that we’d get a hell of a #2 arm from Seattle at the trade deadline, and make a trade for Delmon Young in August, Have a 12-game win streak in September and finish 15 games ahead of 2nd place for our 1st Division Title in 24 years, I wouldn’t believe you.

but there’s a lot of border with wisconsin on the other side of the UP. (of course a few bridges there too)

Actually, I do have a question for you
Are we doing DIBS awards this season, and are they going to include the fun categories like Best Hair and Best Dance Moves?

I'm out for a bit
Thanks to all of the editors and commenters for adding a lot of additional depth to this great season for me. I’m glad I stopped lurking and started interacting with you all.
Just remember, I’ll still be paying enough attention to call down the wrath of Paws on anybody who violates Smoltz’s Law while offseason rosterbating.

Aw this just sucks rocks.
