Prince Fielder Wearing the Old English D?
Should the Tigers sign Fielder and move Cabrera back to third? Miguel Cabrera has never been known for his strong defense, but he played there well enough in the past... it's just that Brandon Inge's defense was so much better. If you do that, perhaps Inge can move to second... or short (with Peralta moving to second). What do you you think? Personally, I do agree that defense is an issue. I can just imagine the Tiger's lineup with a smasher like Fielder batting cleanup. You put Cabrera batting third... and Martinez batting fifth... and wow! What do you think?

How do you really feel?
That one-word answer is actually more effective than if you’d gone on for 500 words.

No.
you don’t want to see Miggy at 3rd for an entire season. you probably don’t even want to see him there for 1 game. he’s put in the work and turned himself into an above average 1B in the field. I know it seems like a good idea when you think of those 3 hitting together… but it’d be a bad idea to actually do it, and it won’t happen.

A third NO
Miggy is solid at first (though somone MUST try and reign him in a bit on cutting off the second baseman) and Victor will be DH ing until the end of his contract.
And Fielder is IMO simply not worth the bread he is going to get
Demote!
Is that possible?
Thanks for the discussion fodder, but I can’t think of a worse way to spend 100M.

I got a sick feeling about Prince Fielder
I think he’ll be winner of the worst bad contract in MLB history.
You mean Dunn's 4 yrs/$56M?
IMO, that’s not too bad to where it’s going to hurt the team beyond repair. The Tigers were on the hook with Carlos Guillen’s 4 yrs/$48M and survived it fairly well.
Prince Fielder is looking to get around 8 yrs / $200M.
it's actually a torn Achilles heel
not ACL

My heart says it'd be fun
Then my brain stabs my heart in the face and says, “SHUT UP YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT.”
So, no.
Awesome game
But I prefer OOTP Baseball. Best sim baseball game there is.

What in the world makes you think Cabrera can still play third?
And for the price Fielder will command? He’s not worth it.
I have a grand idea: let's win a game.
No x 100
Miggy’s health is priority number one. Prince will cost a.. dare I say it.. king’s ransom. The risk and cost aren’t rational
Chicks dig me, because I rarely wear underwear and when I do it's usually something unusual
REALLY - A Kings Ransom? Bet The Freep will use that when Prince signs with the Yankees
I wonder where Fielder WILL end up – Is Arlington Texas a destination? What about Anaheim? My guess is he comes to the AL where he can spend second half of contract as DH.
I'd think the Cubs will be a serious suitor
if they don’t land Pujols, Theo could be looking to make a splash… and I think Prince could do some real damage hitting at Wrigley

If you're going to get a slugger
get one that can stand in RF and let Austin Jackson catch everything west of his shadow.
Yup

Which is why I'd like to be better able to quantify what Boesch will give us
because you don’t want to go into the season counting on him to be the No. 3 hitter and the first half Boesch, but you don’t want to block him, either. Frustrating part about his injury in the second half.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
I like 2012's OF better than 2011's
In 2011, we went in with Raburn, Jackson, and Maggs. Boesch won the #4 spot late in camp. There was worry that Raburn would start slow (again) and that Maggs might not be fully healed (founded).
For next year, I’m less worried about Young than I was about Raburn and I’m less worried about Boesch than I was about Maggs. Plus, Raburn is still around as insurance (although I’m hoping we don’t need much of him until July).
I’d still like to see DeJesus inspected. He could be a good #2 hitter for this team and might give us a surplus of OF to deal for another one of our needs.
The other sports are just sports. Baseball is a love. ~Bryant Gumbel, 1981
I think that's a fair comment
although, I wasn’t worried about Magglio to start the season. I felt like Tiger management apparently did about Maggs- he had hit very well before getting hurt in 2010, was on pace for .300/ 20/ 100 at that point, and his leg checked out when he worked out. I felt we really needed his bat in the 3 hole and BB could not be counted on. I don’t like what I saw from Boesch after the break this season- again.
First Half .306 .360 .490 .850
Second Half .219 .288 .368 .656, 123 PA. From legit All Star to minor leaguer again.
Raburn is insurance for Boesch, IMO.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
Raburn and Boesch sure fit well together
Match made in heaven. One plays in the first half and not in the second and vice versa. If Leyland can somehow figure out when that magical date is, he’d be a genius. Let’s say it’s the all-star game.
Boesch – 2011 – Pre A/S Break: .306 / .490 / .851 – 57R, 12HR, 44RBI (314 AB)
Raburn – 2011 – Post A/S Break: .341 / .574 / .967 – 23R, 6HR, 18RBI (129 AB)
Let say we just make a clean break at the all star game. Boesch gets every at bat before the ASG (maybe makes the AS Team) and then never picks up a bat afterward. Raburn never picks up a bat before the ASG. Based on 162 games with the ASG at about game #100, we would see 62% of AB’s before the break and 38% after. Also, based on 550 AB’s total, here’s what we’d get.
Boesch – 341 AB’s, 62R, 13HR, 48RBI
Raburn – 209 AB’s, 37R, 10HR, 29RBI
By applying a few proportions, here’s how your overall Raboesch, superhuman would look.
Raboesch, 2012 total = .323/.522/.895, 99R, 23HR, 77RBI.

Yeah, no
I would love to see Prince Fielder in wearing the Old English D, but I see two little problems. One, I don’t believe the Tigers can pay him, and the money that Fielder would cost could really be used elsewhere. Second, and this is kind of big, where would we put him? Miguel has 1B locked up for several more years and Victor has the DH role locked up, and I don’t think Miguel moving to 3B answers anything. So, no thank you.

i would love the bat
but there’s nowhere to put him.
and hex no to moving cabby.

Absolutely not
What is the obsession with this team and sluggers anyway? Has anyone ever actually BEEN to Comerica Park?
If you’re going to throw money at the problem, there are plenty of expensive third basemen out there.
I don't think he would want to hit in Coamerica
Would he really want to see his career HR numbers hindered by our beautiful park?

No, no and NO
Fielder looks like a good guy and all, but I think he would mess up how to set the batting order….AND I don’t want Cabby back at third base anymore, we can’t platoon these two players. Knowing that weasel Kenny Williams, he’ll try to one-up use again this offseason and sign him to an extended contract…then he’ll go all Adam Dunn on them, and they’ll put themselves in an even bigger hole! Hahahahahahahaha
In a Tiger fan's world, the Tigers go 162-0 and the White Sox go 0-162.
I would never sign Fielder, but he wouldn't mess up the order
VMart would be a heck of a #3 hitter, followed by Cabrera and Fielder. It would be even better if we pushed them all up a spot.
The other sports are just sports. Baseball is a love. ~Bryant Gumbel, 1981
it would be Miggy3, Prince4, VMart5
but as everyone says, it’s never gonna happen.
That’s the scary thing about the Rangers. They’re that good but have Mitch Moreland playing first. Could they possibly afford Prince? They’ve will have collected revenue for an additional 7+ games on their 2011 schedule. But that’s only one year. If they’re gonna contend every year, eventually they’ll have to secure some of that young pitching.
I wonder if Brandon Phillips is the big target now.

Prince would never sign with Detroit
He and Cecil aren’t exactly close, so why would he sign here when constant comparisons would be inevitable?
