Omir Santos and Brad Thomas outrighted
The Tigers have cleared two more spaces on their 40 man roster by outrighting Omir Santos and Brad Thomas. Neither player is obligated to accept and may opt for free agency. This necessarily means that they had to clear waivers first. The Tigers were not going to tender a contract to Brad Thomas anyway, as he would have been eligible for arbitration and they'd have had to pay him at least $ 620K, maybe more, and keep him on the roster.

Brad Thomas.
I’ll be damned — he still around?

The Tigers tried to outright him during the season, but he came up lame and went on the 60 day DL.
That actually came in handy when they set the playoff rosters because it gave them another wild card. No matter, because they were on the hook for his guaranteed salary anyway, but never again!
