13 Minor leaguers opt for free agency
When a player has six years or more as a professional and is not under a multi year contract and is not on a 40 man roster, he can declare himself a minor league free agent. These 13 players that were in the Tiger system as of the end of the 2011 season did just that. Thanks to MCB for the list, via Baseball America. Catcher we should keep
Max St. Pierre should be one the Tigers keep. His brief chance at the major league level did not allow him much of a chance. Unless the tigers can come up with a really good back up catcher, go with Max St. Pierre for the following reasons: 1. solid defensive catcher 2. knows current players and rookies so he can call a solid game and calm rookie pitchers 3. Knows his place as back up and won’t agitate for more playing time 4. cheap price tag allows more money to be spent on everday second base player. 5. If better catcher prospect shows up in next July trading deadline then Tigers can eat the cost of his contract and let him go
No room on the 40-man for Pierre.
I can think of lots of guys we should allocate spots to instead of Pierre.

Max is a good org guy. I'm sure he'll sign a minor league contract somewhere- probably with the Tigers.
He’s been through a lot with this organization, as anyone who has followed his story knows. These guys don’t need to be on a 40 man roster. The Tigers will be signing a major league veteran who can call about 40 games or so and will be on the roster. Think Barajas, Shoppach types. I like Kelly.
