If You Could Make A Blockbuster Deal That Included NC and JT, Who Would You Get?

First of all, I am not saying that any of these will happen and I'm not saying that trading Turner and Castellanos in one trade would be a great idea, but with little to no big action happening with the Tigers, why not throw around some fun ideas?

1. Felix Hernandez and Franklin Gutierez for Jacob Turner, Nick Castellanos, Brennan Boesch, and prospects

2. Tim Lincecum for Jacob Turner, Nick Castellanos, and prospects

3. Cole Hamels for Jacob Turner, Nick Castellanos, and prospects

Those are the only ones I can come up with. Like I already said, this is just throwing out ideas. What are some of your Miggy style trades?

Not Going to happen

But 2, the deal breaker in 1 is Guti, he’s worse than A-Jax on both offense and defense

Plus I'll take keeping Boesch anyday

I still like Lincecum slightly better but if I were to do a trade for King Felix it;d be minus Guti and Boesch

As if the M's would trade Felix alone for that "haul".

These possibilities are pretty darned improbable and awful. There’s so much rosterbaiting in the offseason I’m sure there are some sore forearms.

I’ll analyze scenario one because I follow the M’s pretty closely – Felix is equal to or greater than Verlander and signed to a decent contract. He’s Seattle’s bright spot and a true ace. Turner and Castellanos are a lowball starting bid. Boesch wouldn’t sweeten the pot enough. The M’s require MLB ready bats and have pitching in their minor league system.

Basically it would require a SS (Detroit doesn’t have that), a middle of the line up corner OF (Detroit doesn’t have one entirely up to snuff), Turner, Castellanos, and a couple of highly regarded prospects to even think of getting Felix. This isn’t MLB video game GM – why would Seattle settle for that package that doesn’t help them one iota right now, trading their biggest asset for what ifs. I like what Turner could be but no way Jack Z doesn’t laugh and hang up at that offer.

I have a grand idea: let's win a game.

I'm going to say: wha

The deal breaker is that Detroit offers zilch to the M’s in deal 1. Felix is worth all those players mentioned and more. Guti wouldn’t be shipped to Seattle unless Detroit offered up Jackson.

I have a grand idea: let's win a game.

Back to the Original Question

I would keep it simple.

We give Yankees Turner and Castellanos

They give us Robinson Cano.

by FungoDave on Dec 3, 2011 12:00 PM EST reply actions

Not a chance

if you think getting Cano is that easy than you don’t know how good he is, he’s hits for power and average, he walks, plays phenomenal defense (nobody turns the double play faster) and is an all around beast.

Prospects are just that, remember that I can have a bunch of prospective placed to find gold and maybe once in a while you find one but you don’t trade a gold mine that cheap…

Nick and Jacob plus Porcello for David Price and Ben Zobrist.

Thought Castellanos Had to Be Part of the Trade

Swap out Castellanos for Porcello and add Oliver and maybe they make the trade

by FungoDave on Dec 3, 2011 12:36 PM EST reply actions

No one

I’m not trading either, let alone both.

yeah… I’m no fun.

I live in south Florida and I’m loving the idea of the marlins spending. wait til this marlins new ballpark buzz wears off (ill say all star break next year) and they sell all their stars. JJ, Hanley (he’s a head case), whoever they buy this year will be on the block… A few more years Til Stanton is too expensive for the fish

by syper17 on Dec 3, 2011 1:06 PM EST via iPhone app reply actions

Ahhh Mikey Stanton

that’s the one guy I MIGHT start to consider things for.

Stanton and Nelly Cruz are my 2 favorites outside of the Tigers… I’d love to see either playing corner OF for us.

IMO, the window is officially open

And it’s going to last from ’12 to ’17.

Turner could very well be a big part of it. Castellanos? Maybe by the end. It’s a rare position player who comes up and immediately makes an impact. It happens … but is Nick Castellanos another Evan Longoria? Nothing suggests he is.

Turner and Oliver for Cain? For Price? Something along those lines. Trade Turner for somebody who has his MLB learning out of the way.

Castellanos for Wright. Woudl it take a few other ‘prospects’? Go ahead, throw ’em in.

Wright is in the 3, and immediately transforms the lineup into one of MLBs best.

Cain or whoever goes into the rotation, and immediately transforms the rotation into one of MLBs best.

The window is officially open. I don’t suggest trading our best prospects for players on their last leg. But for guys who are just getting expensive, are good, and will put us over the top … but still have enough years left to be a part of the 5 year window I see coming.

Yes, I say. Trade both Turner and Castellanos for the (W)right players. And anyone else in the system that will maximize the primes of two HOF candidates and a couple other All-Stars around them. The time is now.

Justin can now let the fungus grow back on his shower shoes.

There isn't really anyone. . .

Maybe making that move for Ryan Zimmerman or David Wright. . those are the only two deals that make legitimate sense in both directions. . . I’d rather move Turner and AJ for McCutchen

Thank you

If I don’t put that in at least twice, I get told how terrible and stupid I am. I wrote a blog once about the Tigers getting HanRam, said the same thing but only once and it ruined my reputation.

Everyone is tradeable

Especially unproven young guys. if you can get an established player for an unproven I would do it. I guess the guys out there I would trade for though for these two would be….Stanton or Cano. Maybe a few others but those two I really like.

by BennieBladesFan on Dec 3, 2011 4:51 PM EST reply actions

Evan Longoria

That might be the start and end of my list. To give up two prospects like JT and NC, you need a team friendly contract for a young, proven, impact player. It certainly helps me include Castellanos in the trade if we’re getting a 3B in return.

I see people saying they’d take Cano, who is great, but his contract isn’t really friendly. 14M this year and 15M next year before he hits free agency in 2014. If you want to pay a middle-infielder 15M, you can sign Jose Reyes without trading your two best prospects.

EVERYONE is tradeable?

That’s how the tigers got Doyl Alexander for John Smoltz, and Edgar Diahrea for Jurgens. The real secret is knowing how to judge who are the Smoltzes and who are the Millers.

by tiggs1 on Dec 4, 2011 9:43 AM EST reply actions

But......

everyone is tradeable. John Smoltz wasn’t THE John Smoltz when he was traded. He was just a 22nd round draft pick with an ERA above 5 and a WHIP above 1.6 who also walked a TON of batters. My point is I don’t think anyone, even the Braves, were looking at him when he was traded and saying, ‘Hey, this kid could be a hall of famer some day.’ Another young hard-thrower with control problems was Miller, and we know how that turned out. There’s no magic ball to look into here….You win some you lose some. We won on Miller, we lost on Smoltz.

Hmm

Turner, Smyly and Castellanos for Desmond Jennings, Jeff Niemann and Ben Zobrist.

See what I did there?

A player that was in Tampa

When they were still the Devil Rays, I don’t think you can still classify them as a prospect. Or one that has over three years of big league experience. And your third option has more big league time than all three of the Tigers prospects put together.

I agree with Rob.

I hear you...Zobrist would be a great fit at 2b

I’d almost rather trade Turner than Castellanos, though. We’re a heck of a lot deeper at SP in this organization than 3B. Of course, the Rays cup overfloweth with SP.

It would definately start with one of those two

I would consider both of them if we got a fringe SP as well or a legit RP.

I doubt it would happen though.

by wilsonm24 on Dec 6, 2011 2:45 PM EST up reply actions

How has nobody mentioned Hanley Ramirez yet?

Doubtful the Marlins would want prospects for him, though. Maybe in a 3-way trade?

We already have a shortstop

Neither Peralta or Ramirez would be happy moving to 3B.

So I guess we could platoon them at SS. :-)

You gotta ask your self....

Would you take Turner and Castellanos for Verlander? And if you would..well thats the reason your not a MLB general manager and you do what you do to make a living..These posts kinda make me chuckle…"Oh well we can give them Turner, a few of our: “not ready for prime time” minor leagurs and a box of new baseballs for a Lincecum, Hammels or Hernandez." type talent. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN…Unless these other MLB General managers get a serious case of ‘stupid’ or don’t feel like having their jobs much longer.

by Maxha on Dec 10, 2011 11:13 PM EST reply actions

What they could do...

Realistically is to look for guys around the league similar to Doug Fister. Guys that had respectable numbers that regularly got into at least the 5th inning with very little run support. Maybe a Wandy Rodreguez type pitcher..I’d also look hard in the National league for a guy not alot of American League hitters have seen before..or at least someone with a decent to good out pitch..I’d be super leery sending anyone like Turner to a team in our division or even in the American league, Hell I’d be leery of sending him anywhere. The MLB light bulb hasn’t gone on for him yet but when it does…look out. I think the word here with Turner is patience..instead of trying to trade him away.
