How about Chris Getz?

The more that I read up on things, the more it sounds like solving the second base/leadoff issue isn't as high a priority as pitching. Maybe that's the case, or maybe inquiries into useful players (Prado) have proven to be too expensive.

What about a guy like Chris Getz?

He's still young, he has speed, has pestered the Tigs on the basepaths in the past, and currently is out of a starting job due to the emergence of Johnny Giovatella. KC might let him go for a mid-low level prospect.

Interested?

He's really a miserable player

We wouldn’t be one bit better with him…just poorer financial and baseball-wise.

A good role for Chris Getz would be stuffed away in Toledo, making far less than 100,000. His speed would be nice as a September callup, but I really don’t see him occupying a 25-man roster spot during the season with his skills.

Detroit Native

Getz is a product of Grosse Pointe South HS. Always love it when local guys get to play in their hometowns.

I agree that his skill-set is questionable but I have seen flashes from him and I wonder if he has some hidden potential.

He also went to Michigan

which is cool, but I don’t want him on this team.

What's the big deal if he's from Michigan?

Isn’t the objective to win? I hate it when teams expect a hometown discount from a player because player don’t ask for out-of-town premiums/increases, if you like the player go get him, regardless if he’s from Michigan, Florida, Venezuela or Japan . If you wanna know about potential here it is: he’s had about 1,000 career AB’s which is usually the standard for judging a player and his career slashes are .254/.315/.307/.622, he has absolutely no power, his fielding is nothing spectacular and he’s nothing more than a fill in player for the Royals, Orioles, Mariners, Pirates, etc. (i.e. bad teams or non-contenders who need to fill positions). The TIgers are trying to contend and you won’t get that with Getz.

Take off your white wig, put down your gavel and stop judging...

No no, don't misunderstand me.

I’m not saying it’s a big deal that he’s from Michigan. I just consider it a cool little aside. I went to school with him.

I also agree that his statistics and metrics of performance are not what we need on a team that has plenty of potential to out-perform last year’s team.

When I said I’ve seen flashes from him I didn’t mean on the score sheets. I just have a feeling about him that given the right scenario, you will see an entirely new level of production from him. No, I’m not saying he’s the next Miguel Cabrera or anything foolish. I’m not even claiming he’d make our every day lineup. (For that matter I don’t see him making our 25 man roster at this point). I just see slightly more potential than his statistics indicate.

Call it a hunch.

How about

No!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry now we have a bench or Santi, kelly, Laird and Dirks(a good bench to say the least), that’s good enough, let’s get a starting bat.
