Who's here today?
Rainy day in the Northeast, great day to imagine being in sunny Florida watching a baseball game and wondering who our starting 2B will be

I'm here, but I have to rely on Gameday for now
I’m in class and listening on headphones would be a little too conspicuous

How far behind am I?
On Gameday, he just walked Bill Hall.

Somebody has to say it
So it’ll be me:
We knew this transition was going to be difficult. Be happy he’s struggling now as opposed to later, and hope that he fixes these problems going forward.

I know it was only one game...
But when I saw him in Lakeland, it looked as though the Phillies were making solid contact against him early (although a great deal of that solid contact did go for outs), and then in his last two innings of work he threw a lot more offspeed pitches and got better, so he is capable of making adjustments.

That may have been the worst call ever
of a base hit. Sweet Moses, get to the result.

Brett Myers
I don’t know why, but every time I see that name, I get Tim McCarver’s southern twang stuck in my head. I hope Brett Myers never plays for the Tigers.

I really wish I could listen to this game right now
Why? Because my professor is playing a Youtube video of a song about cranial nerves that is set to the tune of Glycerin.

...then again, the Tigers scored while I was watching.
Glad I’m not superstitious or I’d have to watch it every time the Tigers need runs.
Interesting, but next I gotta check out:

Rhymes triples and
did he say that Lloyd McClendon was ejected?
Rooting for Tiger stripes, not pinstripes
According to Jason Beck, Leyland was arguing that Myers balked on that pickoff of Ajax and somehow that led to McClendon getting ejected

I had to mute for a sec - what was up with the mound visit?
the astros guys are saying it was weird?
Um...since when is Danny Worth an outfielder?
Or did Gameday mess up?
Doña of the fractured Venezuelan Mafia
Haunted by the ghosts of Tigers past
I'm inclined to agree
If Worth was out there, I think Jason Beck would have tweeted something by now. It wouldn’t be the first time Gameday messed up. I remember one time they had Dusty Ryan playing second base instead of Will Rhymes.

Yep, Gameday corrected itself
Worth replaced Inge at third during the last inning, not left field

Worth in at LF...
Do we need any more evidence that he’s on the team? Feels like Leyland is seeing just how much he can get out of him.

Villarreal
The Astros commentators were very impressed with Villarreal. Going right after and striking out Carlos Lee… not shabby! I wonder how close he is to the Big Leagues.

Sounds like he's fun to watch
The Mud Hens’ rotation could use a spark like that. I’d love to scout him out in person for the rest of BYB. Then if the need for a starter in Detroit crops up, we can see what he can do in the bigs.

What’s the coloration between Spring Training winning and real winning. I want like real science stuff with numbers and math, no anecdotal evidence.

numbers and math...
winsST != winsREAL
-1<CORR<1
so, they are not equal, and are somewhere between 100% negative and positive correlation
however:
winsST >0
a spring training win is better than nothing!

Interestingly (though probably meaninglessly),
there was absolutely no correlation last year in the Cactus League, but a strong positive correlation in the Grapefruit League (R-squared = 0.66).
I'm actually going to do a post on this later for data going back to 2003.
I have to prepare for a presentation first, but hopefully I’ll have it up tonight or tomorrow.
just to state the obvious
I only care cause the tigers are kicking some ST butt.

For All You Numbers Nerds
Winning under any circumstances is good unless you are trying to move up in the draft.
One of you numbers crunches should try and correlate the psychological affect of winning on winning more.
In order to determine if the correlation is meaningful one needs to replay spring training and have the team with the wins have losses instead.
There is absolutely no doubt that winning reinforces self confidence which leads to more winning.
if that were true the correlation would be higher
Facts are facts.

At least it's a better theory than "they're due for a loss"
I just hate assbrain logic.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
Maybe The Numbers Nerds Should Look At This
Is there a correlation between spring training records in the last two weeks of spring training when the rotations and regulars are starting to play more and their record during the regular season.
No doubt that the first couple of weeks of games don’t mean much but once your starters start to pitch five innings and more my guess is that those records have a higher positive correlation to the regular season record assuming no major injuries.
