HUGE mess.

The law suit against their owners is for more than $ 1 billion, there are additional charges coming from the Court appointed trustee (just the fact that their assets are held by a trustee). MLBTR reports today that they’re thinking of giving up on Oliver Perez (ya think?) and they’re worried about K Rod’s $ 17.5 million option vesting if he finishes 55 games this season……
I think it’s safe to say that the award for most bad contracts has passed to the Mets. Sandy Alderson is asking himself “what did I just step in?”

speaking of away jerseys ...

does anyone know where I can get a Tigers’ away jersey in youth sizes. I have looked online exhaustively. Nothing. Do they sell these at the stadiums in Lakeland or Detroit, anyone who has gone?

Dude, your NAME is Jersey!
HAVE YOU TRIED HERE?
You may have to do the custom job, but at least you get the lettering you want. If not here, then try calling the shop at Comerica, about an hour before game time during a mid week home game.

I will try calling Comerica, once the season starts, but I was hoping to get something for Opening Day

Nice BB for AJax

He took a few close ones. Need more of them this season. Convert a few K’s to BB’s.

by Tigerdog1 on Mar 3, 2011 2:17 PM EST reply actions

Was thinking the same thing

He never seemed to be a “swing at anything” kind of batter, but those K’s were bothersome. He looked really patient up there with a nice result.

That's a rookie for you...

I’ll be worried if he doesn’t cut his K-rate this year… Last year it came as something expected.

by FrankHarrison on Mar 3, 2011 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

It's hard to over state the obvious....

that he can’t sustain the high BABIP
However, that high line drive percentage is no fluke and he should maintain a high BABIP just because of that. To maintain a solid OBP, he’ll have to convert some K’s to hits or BB’s. It’s more a matter of what NOT to swing at.

I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!

by Tigerdog1 on Mar 3, 2011 2:25 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe he'll get a veteran strike zone instead of a rookie zone

That would help on the marginal called strike 3’s.

I have DirecTV and Time Warner Cable

Time Warner is the ISP
DirecTV is for television. It never cuts out unless it’s pouring rain, which is like never during baseball season.
And I have the audio deal on MLB.com, for spring games and those few Saturday games that aren’t televised.

Worth should have run on contact

I always wonder what LaMont is doing in those situations.
BB put the ball in play. If the runner has a decent lead, he’s off. Make them make a play, rather than take your chances with the next hitter- odds are against scoring later.

I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!

by Tigerdog1 on Mar 3, 2011 2:52 PM EST reply actions

Espcially with the bobble at 1st

He probably would have scored fairly easily on that play.

However, with it being spring I can kinda see not doing anything in that situation since there is a slightly higher chance of getting hurt on a bang bang play at the plate.

by wilsonm24 on Mar 3, 2011 2:54 PM EST up reply actions

that's what I was thinking

hate to see an injury in that situation

Rooting for Tiger stripes, not pinstripes

by JerseyTigerFan on Mar 3, 2011 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

I think you play it like you would during the season.

The question is whether you have the runner move on contact. Are the odds better running on contact on a ball hit in the infield, or scoring later with two outs? I say go, and I also say that LaMont is a human stop sign. But that’s just me :)

I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!

by Tigerdog1 on Mar 3, 2011 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

I agree to a point

In the regular season you might charge the catcher, but in spring that is considered bad form. There has to be a point where you say “OK, these games don’t mean anything lets not take the risk of hurting anyone”.

About LaMont…yeah he would have had him standing there regardless….unless of course it was Maggs.z

I'm gradally changing my mind about Boesch

I kinda think that it would be hard for JL to pass him up, even if he’s not starting in LF, if he hits well enough this spring. I mean, how do you keep a Donnie Kelly and a Wells or Cletus if Boesch is hitting? The combination of Santiago, Rhymes, Kelly, and Wells or Thomas isn’t very enticing. BB gives another solid bat if he’s even a fraction of what he did when he was hitting last year.
