Happy Opening Day Morning!
We've all spent so many hours we can't even count them all in thinking about this season, writing about the season, reading about the season. And it wasn't even here yet.
I am here to greet you this morning with some good news: We made it.
All the long fall days and winter nights, the spring training games that seemed to go on forever, have led us to this. Baseball is back in our daily lives in an official sense, with games that go in the standings, and stats that go in the, uh, stat book. Or at least, on Baseball-Reference.com.
To tide you over until game time, enjoy this video a follower on Twitter alerted me to, with Ernie Harwell talking about baseball.
Now, we just have to hope the weather holds up in New York City ...
But in any case, Happy Opening Day, everyone!

As long as the tigers score more then the wings did last nights and give up less
I will be happy. Go T-I-double-guh-err
me too
I took the day off from work in hopes of watching (and also to get errands run this morning during regular business hours… why do some places not get that “M-F, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm” doesn’t work if you have a job and no manservant to run errands for you?!?!?!)

it's the Yankees
Even if the game starts on time and there are no delays, it will last five hours.

YEEHA!
It must be Opening Day if Mike and Mike in the morning are talking about Cabrera moving to center field? LOLWTF!?
Mike and Mike
Are idiots who are passionately in love with the sounds of their own voices. The only sport they get is football.

good question
they didn’t mean Melky did they? I mean he’s already an outfielder but still.

He's CF for KC...
until they call up Lorenzo Cain.
WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Happy Opening Day! (I was a dork and didn’t read my Tigers annual yet. I hope to finish it before the home opener, at least.)

And a Happy Opening Day to you!
I won’t be here this afternoon (I’ll be at the bar watching the game) but here’s to a great season of Tigers’ baseball!

yay!
I hope Curtis does great and everyone else in the lineup stinks. :)

I'd just as soon
see him have a slow start (first three games) to a great season (starting Monday vs. Twins). He really smoked us last year in the Bronx.

I've got my rain gear on and I'm ready to go!
The 4 train is gonna be awful today.
Happy Pirates Hope Day!

As long as we have enough wins to win the division and are competive in the playoffs i'm happy.
Remember the year the Mariners won a 114ish games they didn’t even make it to the World Series.
Happy Opening Day!
I haven’t bee this excited since last opening day. I feel a Ryan Raburn 3 run blast today. I sure hope I don’t get stuck with the espn crap and can get the Tigers broadcast with Rod and Mario through my mlb.tv.
Jeff
This sucks....
We’re going to have to wait two more days for baseball. The weather doesn’t look good.
I want to see baseball today, but
if today and tomorrow are a wash, then I will be going to Opening Day on Saturday!

dilemma
Do I try to follow along on my phone, or do I wait until I get home and watch it on DVR?

Avoid the internet and everyone else after 1pm
It’s what I plan to do……and it’s not going to work.

WOOO LET'S GOOO
It’s finally here… I can’t sit at work anymore. Got the beers on ice and hot dogs ready to go on the grill as soon as I get out of work at noon.

Me too...
Hot dogs and beer at noon.. can’t wait! Pay day, opening day… what can be better?
Jeff
Game on ESPN3...
…but NY and MI markets are probably blacked out. Also everybody that has a lame cable operator.
Let’s get the game in! I want to see a 1/2 game lead on Twinkies and South-siders by sundown!
Guillen says‚ "¿Que?"
hmm...
Usually of its on ESPN3, its on ESPN mobileTV. So I may be able to watch it after all.

WEATHER UPDATE!
It’s currently not raining at all in NYC. It’s gloomy, cold and damp outside, but no “PPD” style rain. From what I read, we’re only getting 0.1" of rain today, and it will be spotty until later tonight, so my highly educated opinion is that we’ll get this game on!
Prediction:
5-2 Tigers Victory today. Verlander goes 7 innings, allowing 2 runs off 5 hits, one a two run homer by Nick Swisher. Cabrera has a 2 run bomb, and Raburn drives in one on a double. And, oh hell, we’ll give Inge an RBI single late in the game. VMart goes 3-4 with one RBI.
It's supposed to snow tomorrow
So it’s a pretty crappy situation all around.

True...
But I need it in one of my fantasy leagues. But actually, I have Verlander, too.
I change it…. Complete game, one-hit shutout…. 11Ks. Verlander is a HOSS!!!
never root bad fortune on the Tigers...
even in the name of fantasy. I have CC in 2 leagues but hope he gets LIT today. Plus a good outing from JV would balance that out

They need to rework the schedule
so that the first two weeks of the season are played in warmer climates or indoor stadiums.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
I've always said the same thing
Guess it’d be tough though to get all of the games in a warm climate or indoors
Founder, President and CEO of the Ryan Raburn Fan Club
warmer climates is no guarantee
it rains in Florida too.
by Kurt Mensching on Mar 31, 2011 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions
True, but the chances of bad weather are too great in the northeast quadrant at this time of year
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
They also need a retractable roof in certain cities
The Twinkies could have had one for another $ 60 million, but passed on it.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
plus the Yankees must play at home on the official opening day to generate TV revenues… otherwise how would they possibly compete with the rest of the league?
Jeff
With all that money, they could buy a roof!
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
Serious question
If the game is on both ESPN and FSN which one do I watch?!?!
Warning, content may include sarcasm.
Depends whether you like the Tiger homer broadcast
Or the Yankee homer broadcast!
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
I talked with my father about this last night
Detroit broadcasts, even Red Wings, are MUCH more fair than any others. They’ll give props to the other teams, call out the Detroit teams when necessary… I’ve watched many other broadcasts on MLBTV.com, and they’re pretty awful. Detroit has it good…. must be a Michigan thing.
And ESPN hates Detroit.
Idk man...
I love Micky Redmond but he’s gotta be one of the most biased guys in the business.
Agreed on the espn part though
Founder, President and CEO of the Ryan Raburn Fan Club
Rod is big homer, IMO
I like Rod well enough, and he does a good job of color commentary, but there are times he just oozes praise all over Tiger management that is undeserved.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
agreed
on both points. good analysis, fun to listen to, totally biased

FSD for sure
ESPN is all about the Yanks. Plus I’m just a little biased towards Rod and Mario.

Me, too
unfortunately, I don’t have a choice. ESPN : (
