Game Preview 4/13: Rangers at Tigers
Texas Rangers (9-2) at Detroit Tigers (4-7)
Wednesday April 13, 1:05p:
Dave Bush (Has not pitched in 2011) vs. Max Scherzer (2-1, 5.73)
Lineup Notes:
TEX - Josh Hamilton suffered a fracture in his right shoulder in Tuesday's game and it has landed him on the disabled list. Texas has recalled first baseman Chris Davis to take his spot. David Murphy and Mitch Moreland will likely split time in left field.
DET - With Magglio Ordonez still out with a sore ankle, Ryan Raburn and Brennan Boesch will likely patrol the corner outfield positions. Avila, after resting for 8 innings in Tuesday's game, is due back behind the plate.
To Fear or Fail:
TEX - Dave Bush (0-2, 11.37, 3 BB, 8 K vs. Detroit)
Hitter to Fear: Miguel Cabrera (.375, 2 HR, 4 RBI vs. Bush)
Hitter to Fail: Brandon Inge (0 for 4, 1 K vs. Bush)
DET - Max Scherzer (2-0, 2.25 ERA, 6 BB, 19 K vs. Texas)
Hitter to Fear: Michael Young (.375, 2 3B, 1 RBI vs. Scherzer)
Hitter to Fail: David Murphy (.125, 4 K vs. Scherzer)
Analysis:
After an exciting walk-off win on Tuesday, the Tigers will hopefully ride the momentum train into Wednesday. Josh Hamilton was 0 for 6 with 3 strikeouts against Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer but I suppose the Tigers are still lucky to not have to deal with Hamilton.
The Rangers will look to Dave Bush, who is spot starting due to the Rangers rain out double-header on Saturday. Bush started 31 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last season, going 8-13 with a 4.54 ERA.
With momentum behind them and an opposing pitcher who has yet to see action in to 2011, the Tigers are set up to take the series over the Rangers.

This is especially true because he is “due”.

With a player of his caliber
This is probably a much better statement to make than with average to sub-average players that were mainly listed in Leylands statement.
It was still an opportunity I couldn’t resist.
What's with all the afternoon starts?
Surely there are some people left in Detroit who have 9-5 jobs.
Helps with the tv schedule too.
Not saying that’s why they did it, but April in the D works well with more.

I hope the Tigers don’t get Chen’d by him

Nice verb
Unfortunate that it exists, but nice usage nonetheless.

Its more about a mediocre pitcher shutting down the lineup
than the arm he uses to do it with

Napoli is starting behind the plate for the Rangers today.
This is disconcerting to me for a couple reasons. One, he has been raking the ball since opening day, and I can’t believe he hasn’t played yet in the series. Secondly and more importantly, I will not be gracing the game thread with another “Yorvit Torrealba fun fact to know and tell”. Hopefully, he will pinch hit as I am loaded with these.
Why must you say that our chances look good?
Did this work well in the Verlander / Oganda matchup?
How about vs. Bruce Chen? If it’s a matchup that looks good, so far it’s not good.

Chill
We’ve got a chance to win our first series of the year agaisnt the team with the best record in baseball.
Hope springs eternal. Max is pitching. Rangers are down from losing their MVP. We are in the midst of our longest winning streak of the year.
And we're awesome. :)
Go Tigers!

I will stay away from the thread again today.
We are 3 – 7 when I join the thread this year and 1 – 0 when I don’t, so I will gladly not do so to continue the streak (fingers crossed).
