Tigers promote Ryan Perry off DL, Enrique Gonzalez outrighted

Called it in last night's recap.

Via John Lowe of the Freep:

The Tigers will activate right-hander Ryan Perry from the disabled list for this afternoon's series finale with the Mariners.

Who's the odd man out? Not hard to figure out.

Via Jason Beck's Twitter:

Enrique Gonzalez outrighted to Toledo.

Apparently throwing 13 strikes in 38 pitches while walking four batters in relief gets you an airline ticket to Triple A.

I just have a procedural question

I know what it means to be DFA’d. I know what it means to be outrighted (and I know that you can be outrighted after being DFA’d). What I don’t know is what determines whether you have to be DFA’d or whether you get outrighted right away.

Isn't it depending on how many options you have left?

Either way, this is whatcha’ call a win-win situation.

Irrevocable Outright Waivers

A club that wishes to remove a player from its 40-man roster but keep him in its minor-league system must first place him on outright or special waivers. Outright waivers are not revocable, so a player claimed on outright waivers may not be pulled back by his original club. When a player in the middle of a guaranteed contract is claimed on waivers, the claiming club pays $20,000 and is responsible for paying the rest of the money due under the contract. A club may not request outright waivers on a player with a complete no-trade clause or on a player ten-and-five rights.

A player assigned outright to the minor leagues for the first time in his career must accept the assignment. Thereafter, a player has the choice of 1) rejecting the assignment and becoming a free agent immediately, or 2) accepting the assignment and become a free agent at the end of the season if he has not been returned to the 40-man roster.

A player with 3 years of Major League service may refuse an outright assignment and choose to become a free agent immediately or at the end of the season.

A player with 5 years of Major League service who refuses an outright assignment is entitled to the money due according to the terms of his contract.

Fu Te Ni pitched pretty well today

I was at a frozen Fifth Third today to the 10:30 am game. He k’d 4 in two innings and looked more than capable of being better than Bradley. But of course that’s not hard to do.

Congrats Tigers on Gonzalez.

When Weinhardt shows up, I’m sure DD is smart enough to replace Thomas with him. Congrats Boesch. Some day they’ll realize you hit LHP too.

Not unless he's learned to pitch with the other arm . . .
