Tigers Third Baseman in 2012
I read the following and then it occurred to me, the answer to the Tiger's inconsistency at third base may be a free agent away for a starting bid of 8 years and $200 million.
David Freese and Nick Punto leaving yesterday afternoon’s game with injuries put the Cardinals in a tough spot and led to Albert Pujols playing third base for the first time since 2002. - May 2, 2011
This would provide the Tigers with a batting order of: (1) CF-Jackson; (2) LF-Dirks; (3) 3B-Pujols; (4) 1B-Cabrera; (5) DH-VMart; (6) RF-Boesch; (7) C-Avila; (8) SS-Peralta; and (9) 2B-Sizemore. Now that is pretty incredible! Next year we will free ourselves of the $10M to Ordonez and the $13M we our obligated to pay Guillen - so right there we have $23M to begin our contract negotiations with Pujols.
I think it has become more and more apparent that Inge is simply a stop-gap until we can get a replacement and I am worried that we may not have one within the organization. His power decline this year is Magglio-like, his defense continues to decline to a point that he is below-average, and his batting average is hovering the mendoza line. I know that many will comment or think that at 31 years old, Pujols' best years are behind him, and that he is not athletic enough for third base, which may be true.
So the question remains - what should the Tigers do to fix our third base inconsistencies?

Well Inge is signed through next season
However id be ok with him being traded in a package with prospects to NY for David Wright. I dont think this will happen but hey ya never know. NY needs to save money and they may just want to dump his salary for young guys with low contracts. In any case Inge will being playing 3rd next season in Detroit more then likely.

The price would be really high in prospects.
Too high for my blood.
I have a grand idea: let's win a game.
pujols will sign with the cubs next season
for 300 million over 9 years. 33 million per year. not 25.
25- 30, 7- 8 years is my guess, and the Cubs will be in on it
but the Cards won’t let him go that easily

actually it is, pull the trigger DUMBrowski
and did you hear Magglio was a six time all star? I’m sure that broken ankle didnt hurt him. He’ll just step up to the plate and announce he was an all-star and trot down to first base.

I know its not that simple
im just so tired of inge.
David Wright isn’t hitting and Reyes will cost the big bucks this offseason as a FA.
not to mention the prospects….

Yea, I'm Right There With Ya.
I know he’s a fan favorite and he’s a good community guy, etc. but he just can’t get it done. Sadly, there really aren’t any immediate options right now (Martinez/Castellanos are a year or two away) that won’t cost a Turner or an Oliver.

Plan for the best, prepare for the worst
The best being Inge plays wells enough to the end of his contract at which point Castellanos takes over third. Worst case is we need a new 3B/SS and Castellanos is not ready. Unless Castellanos is part of a trade we just get another sort of stopgap solution at one of those positions, moving Peralta to 3rd if we get a SS.
Wait til October...

They'll keep that spot warm for Castellanos
We’re on a 6 game winning streak with virtually no offense from 3B. I don’t think you’ll see any new players in the organization to play 3B until 2013. If Inge does somehow get benched (which I think is unlikely), Peralta moves to 3B and we put out a SS combo of Santiago, Iorg, and Worth.
The off-season between 2012 and 2013 could be interesting. If NC is still working his way through the system (it’s likely he could still be adjusting to AA or AAA pitching at that point), they’ll probably just re-sign Inge or Peralta to a 1-year deal or look outside the organization for another short-term solution. When you get a player like Castellanos, I doubt you block him by signing a marquee 3B as long as he’s developing.

Free Agents
I think this off season could be very interesting. While I am sure that there are several players that are due raises (I am looking at you Max) – with Maggs/Guillen freeing up $23 million and we did not even spend all we freed up last year, we should have around $30 million or so to pursue free agents. While I know that management is hesitant to lock up serious cash over a long period of time – Pujols has been the picture of consistency and did well in the post season. I really do hope Castellanos is the future, but he is probably 2-3 years away, and that is a big maybe. I think our offense has been good enough, but we really need another big time slugger. I do have to say Peralta, Boesch and VMart have done better that I could have hoped for during the early season. What other free agent 3B/SS are available after this year?

I love the idea
That would be absolutely insane. I would seriously consider emptying the farm or shelling out bukoo bucks for Pujols. He would turn us into instant contenders for a good 5-6 years. If we could manage to win 1-2 WS in the window he would give us, it’d all be worth it.
However, there’s no question in my mind that Albert is staying St. Louis. After working in metro St. Louis last summer, I got to see first hand how that community worships him. That town lives and dies with the Cards and there is no way that Will DeWitt lets him walk. They will find a way to get him resigned. Plus, Albert grew up in the area and went to high school in St. Louis. His family is settled there, etc. He’s not leaving.

Sound it out. It's the same and the meaning isn't just from New Orleans.
Urban dictionary!

I heard this before urban dictionary existed while I took French (in Washington (not DC)).
Could be a hold over, in this area’s case, from Chinook jargon used by the trappers and natives for trade or sarcastic French language students.

I know that there are

Problem solved!
I have a grand idea: let's win a game.
Where's the problem?
Inge was valued at 2.1 Wins above replacement level in 2010. Peralta was valued at 1.4 WAR. Inge was the better player, at least in 2010.
Using more traditional statistics, Inge and Peralta were very close across the board in average, power, and OPS, with a slight edge to Inge. Defensively, Inge is above average and Peralta is below.
Inge, 2010 .247 .321 .397 .718
Peralta, 2010 .249 .311 .392 .703
Peralta, DET .253 .314 .396 .710
But of course, the last 40 games outweigh the last three years.
