2010-11 Off-season Review
Sure, we're only 30 games into the season, but most major free agent signings have been off to a very slow start. Just about everyone not named Cliff Lee that signed a sizable new deal in the off-season has limped into 2011.
Sometimes the best deal is the one you didn't make. Imagine how we would feel if the Tigers had signed Jason Werth to a $126M 7-year contract and then watched him hit .230 with more strikeouts than hits.
As painful as Inge's slow start with the bat has been, I wouldn't have wanted to sign Beltre to a $9M deal to start out hitting .246.
There was a palpable frustration in the off-season here and on other blogs as the Tigers signed only a couple of early mid-level free agents and then shut it down and got ready for this season.
This year hasn't started off quite as scripted in Feb/Mar, but hey, it could be a whole lot worse.

Way more $ per error,
and years left on any contract we could have signed him to. All just to get one good year (his contract year).
NO THANKS!!!!

Beltre also
Has 25 rbi,7 HR, and.has only 12 K’s so he’s putting it in play. He’s also having to pick up the brunt of the work with Hamilton and Cruz hurt. Inge is strictly here for defense and even that is failing him this year. Career. 237 hitter…Inge may be a great guy that doesn’t mean he can play ball. His entire career he’s always made the tough plays and struggled with routine plays. I want it the other way around. Leyland was quoted couple days ago saying Inge’s numbers will come, what numbers??

.246, rounded up.
Not worth the extra $, considering he won’t hit much better until his contract is up again. Inge takes less money and less years, and with any luck, maybe Castellanos is ready by then. Besides, I thought I saw that Beltre said he didn’t want to come here, he wanted to play closer to home. So why do we keep talking about a guy that didn’t want to come here like we could have signed him?

We probably couldn't
have signed him. I just dispise Brandon Inge…This guy hit the ceiling in 2006, now that his knees are gone and he can’t play defense anymore…he’s worthless….I’d rather have Santiago over there everyday. Helen Keller could hit .237 for a career…JUDAS!!
