How great is Justin Verlander? Like many other BYB members I was watching the game intently. Verlander had to settle for a two hit shutout as The Tigers took first place for themselves. After the game I had a conversation with my friend who is a Cardinals fan. We debated for a while on who was the best pitcher in the MLB. I said JV, because frankly, he has arguably the best combined stats in the league and not to mention he has taken 3 no-hitters into the 7th inning, and his team is in first place. He reluctantly agreed that the man is dominant. Here is my question, will Verlander win the AL Cy Young award? In 2009 when he had 263 strikeouts and 19 wins the only thing holding him back was his 3.45 ERA. But it appears Justin is done with 3+ ERA's. So will he win the Cy Young? Should he start the All-Star game? Will he throw another no-hitter this year? Also, do you think JV will end up in the hall of fame?
Now that I'm done gushing about Verlander, it's time to talk improvement. The team is fantastic, but every team has room for improvement. Maybe you guys have heard of Michael Morse who plays outfield and first base. Morse led spring training in home runs and after an awful start to the year has ended up mashing .312 with 13 home runs 40 rbi's and 40 runs. He is hitting better than Jayson Werth and Zimmerman for the Nationals and also has a very small contract. I would love to see him play in Detroit, is there any way we could get him?
