Game 105 Overflow: Angels at Tigers
What happened so far:
- Brad Penny: 3.1 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 0 K, 1 BB, 1 shouting match with Victor Martinez in a fairly efficient 74 pitches.
- Miguel Cabrera hit a home run that probably hasn't landed yet.
- Brennan Boesch had an RBI single.
- Jim Leyland got tossed again. That makes four times in just over a month.
Topics from the previous thread:
- Roast beef sandwiches not of the Arby's variety
- Trade rumors
- Spontaneous trips to the ballpark
- Picking sides in the Penny-Martinez spout (hint: Victor was a big winner)

wonder if
jimmy smokes getting tossed so frequently is a sign of pressure mounting (see: Mr. Ilitch’s comments earlier this week)
does penny's outing make us more desperate for a starter?
do we need to trade for a #3 guy now not a #5?

(And I only chose Ni because he’s the scheduled starter for Toledo tomorrow night).

Just a guess
Victor won’t be catching Penny again this season

Only thing is...
They really should be giving Al’s kid more rest down the stretch, and the logical time to do that is when we face a LHP- nothing to do with Penny’s starts.

Furbush may get a trip but not to Toledo -
I’m betting either Furbush or Oliver gets traded
So Al Al is out
And Penny didn’t go deep today.
Will this force Al Al onto the DL or force a temporary Furbush/Wilkins swap?
You know I'm right about this.
Wilk last pitched on Monday
I guess he’s had enough time off that he’d be available.

the wishy washy-ness of this board is a little too much to handle sometimes.
and I understand that he should make judgements on the situation, but he can’t be both a human stop sign and a human windmill….
Already in the middle of a big inning
I didn’t see the play so have no idea how close it would have been…but if your fastest guy is not attempting to score from second on a single then something is wrong with your third base coach. I am not normally anti-lamont, but you have to force the other team to make the play sometimes.

I really didn't like pulling Charlie that early
only 0.2 innings. He’s the long reliever. He needed to eat more innings, lefty or not.
Now we’re going to see every freaking POS reliever in the pen, including Purcey.
At least Ruffin is doing much better today.

That does seem odd
Maybe Lloyd DID get TOLD to pull him. Perhaps something is in works for either Charlie or Duane Below and they will have Charlie take his spot in the rotation

Wtf? He’s a long delivers and you take him put after two outs? Did whoever did that completely go retarded and realize that at some point, the bullpen would be totally used up?
This is the type of shot that absolutely KILLS me-I can’t believe the ineptitude of some of this game management. This is beyond stupid, its effing retarded

Seriously...fuck you purcey
What good is a big league pitcher that can’t throw strikes?
Charlie Sheen Night at CoPa: everyone has their Tiger Blood and Coke is a free mixer.
Purcey had an anxiety attack
Put him on the DL for that.
no strikes...
means that he can’t even throw BP… looks like we can use Penny and Coke for BP, though

I hate him
i watched that athletics game unfold and can not belowe one f our coaches would be so freaking stupid as to put him in a one run game
Charlie Sheen Night at CoPa: everyone has their Tiger Blood and Coke is a free mixer.
Purcey WPA for tonight
-16% if you don’t count the 2-0 batter against him
-25.1% if you count the Kendrick single against him.
And he started at only 30.7% chance of a Tiger win.
You know I'm right about this.
i know we're in first and blah blah
but i wonder how many times the other first place teams have been blown the f out
we’ve more than a handful of blow outs
not exactly the answer to my question but
Boston: +136
Yankees: +131
Philly: +102
Texas: +89
Atlanta: +49
SF: +15
Mil: -6
Det: -14

Well for reference.
The Phillies have lost by 5+ runs 7 times.
The Red Sox have lost by 5+ runs 8 times.
The Tigers have lost by 5+ runs 13 times.

I F-CKING HATE YOU DAVID PURCEY
YOU MAY BE A SUPER SWELL GUY BUT YOUR BASEBALL SKILLS ARE A F-CKING JOKE
Disagree
I think Coke has had one or two bad outings as a reliever. Purcey has had…many

Purcey did the exact same thing last week against the A's
He threw even more balls than that. Some of the hitters gave him a break and swung at them

2 outs on three pitches. WTF?

Tigers have a ton of relievers with great stuff and no control
But Purcey is 27 now. He’s had time to sort out his control issues. He’s not going to sort them out. Really bad trade by DD. Wilk at least throws strikes. Schlereth at least has a future if he can sort things out. Perry, Villarreal, Oliveros, Ortega, Ni, etc, etc….
And Coke didn’t do a great job today, either
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
Agree - BAD trade
I’m not sure the trade wasn’t “get rid of Sizemore” as much as we really had to have Purcey. I do not remember if Sizemore had options left or not. If he was out he surely would have been claimed off of waivers
I believe that JL wanted Coke in the pen, and DD wanted him starting
so they went back and forth about a lefty reliever for months. JL didn’t like Sizemore as much as DD, and DD never replaced Coke in the pen.
But Purcey was DFA’d by the Jays, who needed lefty relievers.

more Simpsons seems appropriate...
Homer: So who won? The losers?
Bart: No, they lost.
Homer: Heh, heh, heh, heh, losers.
Marge: But only by two (six?) points, and they didn’t resort to stealing bases like the other team, so it’s kind of a moral victory.
Lisa: With a little middle relief, they might even make the playoffs!
Homer: You’ll be in your cold, cold grave before that ever happens.
Marge: Homer, would you please stop talking about the childrens’ graves?

We may not have won this game
But I can justifiably say, without a doubt, that the coaching staff’s decision to put purcey in gave this game away. I am so flaming mad right now that I’m having trouble typing.
I fucking hate Purcey and now I hate whoever put him in this game.

make sure you obey the 3 day waiting period before using any of the guns… use discretion when handling nail guns and chain saws…
I feel like maybe it would help to have that scroll on the bottom of the screen when Purcey is coming into the game… Kind of like when Detroit affiliates ran a scroll at the Super Bowl when Matt Millen was doing pregame analysis.

DD is in a suit so he can call a press conference right after the game and DFA purcey
Lock Jacob Turner up until 2012
Down by 1 run?!?!
are you effing serious? He just turned over 3 runs without a single out and barely a strike thrown.
I’d give more that 25% for them too score more than one run with this lineup
