Carlos Guillen to the DL; Will Rhymes back up
According to the Front Office twitter, Carlos Guillen has a sore wrist and is going back to the DL. So who had wrist and third week of August on the injury pool?
On Twitter, Matthew Mowery of The Oakland Press drives home just how fragile Guillen has been over the past four seasons.
Carlos Guillen played 284 of a possible 605 games during his current four-year, $48 M contract w/ #Tigers. Missed 1st 93 games this season.
Will Rhymes is being called up. He was sent down to Toledo in May after hitting just .221 in 19 games. His line at Toledo this year is .303/.373/.398/.771 (with three home runs!), similar to what it was when he got his first call up last year.
Guillen is barely over the Mendoza line, and hitting 4-38 with one RBI in his last ten games, so it's not surprising there's something wrong.

Poor glass Carlos.
On the other hand, I’m glad to see Will Rhymes back up. Just because. #irrational #dontcare

I don't hate him?
But he’s been payed $760k per hit this year. I’m sick of paying him for nothing.

Welcome back Rhymes!
Leyland must be happy to have another defensive replacement player for late in games.
That rug really tied the room together.
Although Carlos didn't hit much, I still liked him on the roster.
You can never discount his presence.

I WON!!!
Oh wait, wrist? I had cyst in the 3rd week of August. Dang.
And yes, I as well am happy for Rhymes.
Drink, and Drink, and Drink, and Drink, and Drink, and Drink, and Fight!
Hope he gets well soon
Had to figure something was affecting his swing with how sharp he was at the plate immediately off the DL. This may just be a getting back into the game pain. Here’s hoping, because I know everyone seems to love will rhymes, but he’s just not that good. Maybewe’lll get lucky and he’ll have another fluke second half and honestly, with the awful production we’ve had at second base, his glove will be a breath of fresh air and if he hits .250 with an OBP of .300-.350, that will be better production than we’ve gotten all year.
God ain't got no use for a 180 lb bag of sugar.
so who did win the injury pool?
I looked at an early version of it and I note elbow wasn’t an option. But there was a write-in column

With him, could be both
hasnt had a full scan MRI yet so he may have a fractured spine too

Based on my limited medical knowledge (most of it from House)
I think Carlos has lupus.

I think Raburn gets the Abs at 2nd not Ryhmes

I can't believe I'm saying this.
But I think I’d actually prefer that Rhymes start at 2nd and Raburn play RF.
Not that I think it will actually happen.
One good thing about Leyland's Lineups...
…When he sticks to his guns, we have the best 6-7-8 hitters in the world.
:(
playoff rosters
I don’t quite know how this works… but a 15 day DL stint, plus a couple rehab games will push this into September which then makes Rhymes eligible for the playoff rosters, right?
Or maybe they’ll send Will back down in order free Brandon Inge!
Well Raburn will Def Get The ABs
Well at least I hope so. I like Will but hes a career minor leaguer.

Raburn doesn't belong in the infield
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
no
he doesn’t and its hard to justify him playing the OF either (or too) whichever is grammatically correct.

hes actually got a decent UZR in leftfield
to the point where its almost above avereage. Add in his canon for an arm and hes actually a more than decent left fielder…He just makes AWFUL mistakes….Like throwing the ball over the fence with your glove, running on the warning track
God ain't got no use for a 180 lb bag of sugar.
Will was a real spark plug when he was called up in 2010
If he can get on base often enough and play average defense, he can spark the offense again this season. I’m glad to see him back up. Raburn needs to be in the lineup, but not in the infield.

Honestly
I’m surprised Carlos lasted as long as he did. Oh well.

I had him lasting the season in the pool
with none of the above as his injury. I figured that nobody else had that square, and nobody had him lasting the season, so WTH. I don’t recall if a wrist was on the list at all???
This DL stint will pretty much take us right up to the 9/1 date when players can be recalled.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
Good bye Carlos and Maggs
They were both good players at one time but there time has come.Send htem to Toledo with Inge. Its time to move on without them.
And look who's playing second base today....
Is it Raburn? NO
Is it Will? NO
Why, it’s Santiago!
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
who should be given that position
anyway. just sayin.

No pretty choices, but I'd give Will a shot most days
with Santiago on occasion. Worth can play the position as well.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
I agree give Will a shot
Put him at second and bat him second he can’t hit any worse then Carlos. We need some young energy for the strech run.
Not to beatch about a first place team, but
the Tiger lineup is really boring. Like to see some energy and excitement. on the bases. You look around the league and you see 2B men that don’t have good OPS or SLG numbers, relatively speaking, but they can run and field pretty well for the most part.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
Funny thing is that Polanco is hurt again too
He’ missed nearly the entire month of July due to his back injury, but now he’s out with a sports hernia that will eventually require surgery. So even if we kept Polanco, we might still have this hole at 2B to fill.
Send Carlos back to the Bacta Tank...
…but it’s not working properly. Poo.

Definitely not arguing that guillen isn’t fragile, but this DL trip smells like an NBA injured list addition. Guillen had to be taken out of the lineup because he hasn’t hit at all since his return. And, he’s not a bench player – so he was either to be waived or placed on DL with an “injury”.
Ideally for tigers, they make the playoffs and can convince Guillen to take the 24th roster spot (don Kelly will forever hold the 25th). Because guillen can help as a bench player as long as he’s not destructive presence.

Tiger Dog whats your take on Maggs the way he's playing.
I just can’t see him batting 3rd in the lineup anymore. No power and no average, plus he is slow in the field.
Need a Boesch Basch

I have the original Carlos Guillen Injury Pool chart at home
…but I’m currently in Prague. I’ll let you know Tuesday night who “won.”
(But, the Injury Pool is sorta like a prison rodeo. There are no real winners.)
