Game 121 Overflow #2 - Twins at Tigers

Best caption for this picture wins a game-worn Will Rhymes jersey from his latest stint in the majors.

What happened so far:

  • Utter chaos
  • More specifically, Delmon Young started his Tigers career off with a home run in the bottom of the 1st inning.
  • The Twins put up 3 runs in the 3rd inning, 3 runs in the 6th inning and 3 more in the 7th. Jim Thome hit his 599th career home run off of Rick Porcello and his 600th off of Daniel Schlereth in the 7th.
  • The Tigers scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th to pull within one (at the time). Alex Avila is 3-for-3 and is just a home run away from the cycle.
  • Porcello's line: 6 IP, 9 H, 6 R (4 earned), 2 K, 1 BB.
  • Ryan Raburn and Wilson Betemit have been a collective comedy of errors defensively. Young, on the other hand, has been pretty good.

Star-divide

Topics from the previous thread:

  • Rob's bookshelf (which is already 2/3 full with textbooks, sadly)
  • Jim Thome, and how he's apparently a pretty classy guy
  • How Central Michigan is screwing over its students (I see you, Ryan)
  • Bad fantasy baseball decisions
  • Arby's expansion into uncharted wilderness (a.k.a. Marquette)
  • Brian Wilson, for some reason
  • The idiots at the CoPa doing the wave (to their credit, the standing ovation for Thome was pure class)

A contractor who shoots, edits and converts video to create Web site/Youtube-ready shorts for a client that needs to document progress on a construction project for its various constituencies. The contractor will make more than $2K for a couple of days’ work. That’s the kind of thing that is growing, while TV stations are contracting. Being able to write, direct, edit, shoot, produce, etc. that kind of thing is a valuable skillset.

The fact that Perkins imploded in Cleveland.

Now I have confusion

Why use Coke now if you didn’t use him in a one run game?

You know I'm right about this.

by HighOPS on Aug 15, 2011 9:48 PM EDT reply actions

Because Coke is the 7th inning lefty

And sSchlerethe is long inning lefty

Not sure where Below fits in

by Jim Bunn on Aug 15, 2011 9:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Below is the long reliever

like when a starter gets shelled and has to come out early. aka mop up man.

Schlereth is just the AAAA reliever du jour, along with Perry and Purcey.

Coke is a set up man for the 7th and a random LOOGY.
Al AL is a set up man and a random ROOGY (that’s Japanese for LOOGY)
Benoit is the 8th inning set up man
Valverde is the closer

And most importantly, no matter how high the leverage situation, the above can not be altered.

I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!

by Tigerdog1 on Aug 15, 2011 9:52 PM EDT up reply actions

To burn up our best lefty against the LH heavy Twins of course

Confusion is becoming ANGAR

He won’t last 20 years and hits line drives that often go for doubles instead of home runs which will limit his annual totals.

If we say he will then I predict he will in 2020 as a Yankee in Yankee stadium.
