Now I can officially say...

I approve of the trade completely.

Way to be, DD.

Mild relief

I like the trade on it’s own merits. DY could get white hot and tear up the league. What the manager does with his new personnel is another matter. We have a surplus in the outfield.

Please sign Brando Phillips in the winter.

and andrew mccutchen

i’d be ok if it meant dealing jackson to the bucs

by longview on Aug 16, 2011 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

p.s.

i have no idea if mccutchen is FA, or if the bucs would trade him, or anything really. i just love the way AM plays the game.

Answer

He’s not, and they wouldn’t, for 5 Jacksons.

The club option is for 12 mil

it’s not a lock that they pick it up.

you have to hope

the Reds go brain dead and decline his option first

I'd love it

but don’t think they will

Phillips would work, but I’d be willing to give Aaron Hill a shot, he’d be significantly cheaper, and has a lot of potential upside

by ccaruss on Aug 16, 2011 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions

can't argue with this

need to get younger and hopefully better. Go for Phillips with Hill as the backup plan.

Wait til October...

Good trade, DD

From what it...

…sounds like, Delmon’s as despised in Minnesota about as much as Raburn is here. Hopefully he just needs a change of scenery. Too soon to pass out grades on this one but right now, it looks like a great deal on paper. Especially for a guy who’s only 25

by NoNon on Aug 16, 2011 3:25 PM EDT reply actions

Not that it's a bad deal . . .

But his age is really only relevant if we plan to keep him next year, and considering he’d be at Arb3 and looking at around $6 million in salary, I kinda hope that’s not the case.

by The Nicker on Aug 16, 2011 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I think 7- 8 mil salary

Not exceedlingly happy we gave up Oliveros

But, hey. We don’t lose much, just a middle relief type of guy.

Why couldn't this have been announced yesterday?

What changed between then and now?

they probably didn't know who exactly it was

May have been talking over a couple different players at the same level, decided to just go with one of those guys and decided to do the deal and then work out the specifics later on.

Right

Educated risks

DD has won some big ones (Cabrera) and lost some (Renteria), but on the whole I am a strong supporter.

I have some worry that with Casper, Furbush, Ruffin, Martinez, Oliveros, we gave up too much in the past couple of weeks.

I understand Fister and Pauley are strong young players, in the bigs, under low cost club control for years ahead. Also I am watching Castellanos at WMichigan routinely and he appears to be a huge prospect (at F Martinez position).

The Oliveros/Young trade is more on my mind because I think Young is unsigned in 2012? and Oliveros has absolutely filthy K/BB type stuff at his very young age.

Interested in what people know/think, esp about Oliveros.

Hoping it all gets us over our present 2011 hump and works out down the road!
