Tigers name five Arizona Fall League Players
The Tigers have named five players that will be sent to the Arizona Fall league in September. Pitchers Casey Crosby, Matt Hoffman, and Tyler Stohr, along with position players Will Rhymes and Danny Worth will be going to Arizona, as announced by Paul Wez on Tigstown.com
The Arizona Fall league features some of the brightest prospects from around minor league baseball. Each major league club sends half a dozen or so of their best minor leaguers, usually thought to be very close to cracking the major league rosters. These announcements mean that the players going to Arizona will not be called up to the Major leagues when rosters expand in September, unless something changes, as AFL rosters frequently do.

That's encouraging
not much of a “prospect list” in the top five. More like a “last gasp” list. Almost like a consolation prize for Worth and Rhymes, for not going to the Tigers. A sure sign that they’re still going to rely on Guillen at 2B is my guess.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
That mean Worth not getting called up in September?
or is that still on the table?
Wait til October...
Unless they change the AFL players, no he won't be called up

Brantly isn't a bad choice
Neither are Hoffman or Crosby, and Worth is probably getting a utility tryout for next year. Not a bad mix, but not great either.

I like that they're getting Brantly the innings
Rather than bringing him up for no reason when Avila will catch every game.
I like Crosby getting more work
If he gets off to a good start next season, he could move quickly, and blow past Oliver
I never expected Brantly to be called up, this is a good assignment for him
Hoffman a good choice as well
Worth? Ho hum. Thought he’d be called up but maybe he’s better getting some regular work in AZ.
I was hoping Rhymes would get a call and actually start- a lot- but they’re obviously going to give Guillen first chance to produce.
Worth and Rhymes don’t need the experience. Thought we’d see a couple more players pushed and tested.

Ageed, I'm not thrilled with Worth and Rhymes going
I’d rather see some actual fringe prospects, like Guez or Douglas. I think we all have a pretty good idea of what we have in Rhymes and Worth if we need them.

Where does this leave us with September call ups?
Santos would be a lock, but since he has to be down ten days or until Toledo’s season is over, he will be up on Sept. 6th.
Worth was also recently sent back, but he’s headed to AZ.
With Boesch’s thumb still in bad shape, Dirks has to get a call up, IMO, even if he wasn’t going to already. He should also get a lot of starts, IMO. The only question is whether they DL Boesch on Wednesday and call up Andy, making him eligible immediately and potentially keeping another wild card if BB isn’t ready for playoffs, or whether they wait until Thursday to call up Dirks when rosters expand. Either way, Dirks should be up PDQ.
I thought at least one of Worth or Rhymes would be called up, but they’re both off to AZ. Looks to me like Guillen will be soon activated and that’s it for infielders. Unfortunately, Leyland still foolishly considers Raburn an infielder. We’ll continue to see Inge and Santiago starting some and coming in for defense frequently as well.
Al Al should be coming off the DL as well. Maybe another reliever is added. I suppose they could call up Villarreal, but I’m guessing they won’t. Maybe they add Wilk or Oliver. Wilk is clearly the better pitcher right now, and he throws strikes if he’s healthy again.
So the additions would be:
Alburquerque
Guillen
Dirks
Santos on 9/6
Maybe Wilk, Villarreal, or Oliver.
Gnarly comment: Santiago is the best 2B that the Tigers have right now. There will be two more in Arizona that are better options than anyone else they have in Detroit.
