Game 114 Overflow - Tigers at Royals
What happened so far:
- The Royals jumped out to a 4-0 on RBIs from Billy Butler, Mitch Maier, Brayan Pena and Johnny Giavotella.
- Bruce Chen mowed through the Tigers lineup during the first five innings. It took an act of God (literally) to knock him out of the game, but he was tagged for three runs by the Tigers offense beforehand.
- In case yesterday didn't panic you enough: Miguel Cabrera tweaked his ankle sliding into 2nd base in the 6th inning. He's still in the game though.
- Gene Lamont has no idea how to judge outfield arm strength (/end rant).
Topics from the previous thread:
- Victor Martinez speculation
- What superstar left-handed pitcher Bruce Chen turns into when he plays the Tigers
- The Rod Allen drinking game (we're playing on Wednesday!)

that throw
Was even more incredible on the replay. No hops, right into the glove. Too bad that arm wasn’t in the scouting report. #snark

Wow, I missed the
first thread. Just now found out about the Rod Allen drinking game being Wednesday. Can’t wait for that game now!
Qustion
Does it have to be Boone’s Farm? I’m not sure my mom will let me play if I have to drink that.

I always thought it was a given that you just didn't run on Francour
No matter what else people say about Jeff Francour, I don’t think anyone has doubted his throwing arm. So… why even attempt it with Peralta (who’s not exactly a speedster)?
I have no fucking idea
Francoeur’s arm has been on the top of his damn scouting report since he broke into the league. There was no reason to test him there. Yet another stupid decision by Lamont at 3rd.
The damage can be mitigated
if the batter takes second on the throw. The Tigers are terrible on doing that.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
I'll play this with Boone's Farm.
I might have to buy two bottles though.

Phil Coke is under team control until 2015
and will probably be very affordable in arbitration. He’s fine when healthy, so why not keep him for another year?
Oh I know - Fans have really turned on him this season
Fasted player from popular to unpopular in a long time
if he can get his form back from before his ankle injury
They will swing right back to his side once he is an effective pitcher again.

As it should be
Just use him in low leverage situations until he gets back on track
They’ve jerked him around a lot this season
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
Jerked him around?
Coke wanted to be a starter. FO game him the chance.

Coke would be near impossible to get through waivers
even though he is arb eligible, a lefty starter/ reliever that cheap is a hot commodity. Having years of club control left makes him valuable to non contenders as well as contenders. Almost any team would put in a claim.
I don't care what the Chinese say, 2011 is the Year of the Tiger!
Look! We have a good reliever!
"Some guy told me I should walk with the Lord. I'd rather walk with the bases loaded" Ken Singleton
Interesting note on Francouer
He has a career UZR of 42.6 runs. 53.2 of that was created by his arm. That’s unreal.
I thought for a moment we weren't going to have an overflow

Pretty sure PAM doesn't qualify, either?
I guess I just have to either use olive oil or go get a can of Canola spray

Olive oil would be fine

well TECHNICALLY
An olive is actually a fruit, not a vegetable, so it might not could biologically as a “vegetable oil.”
You could always just get some store-brand corn oil and use that.

Which has the extra perk of producing bacon.
I’ve always used peanut oil and baked the shit out of it.
I wouldn't try it
Just use actual vegetable oil.

I'll have to get some
I never, ever cook with that stuff. Only extra virgin olive oil. Kirkland or Trader Joes. Heart reasons.

Still hitting .286 since the break, and .294 for July.
