Zumaya?

I've read that Joel Zumaya is working himself back.  Now he's throwing (without pain) at 90 feet... a good sign.

In my opinion, Mr. Zumaya should be willing to sign with the Tigers for a very small guarantee and a bunch of incentive dollars... although I doubt he would be willing to. (Maybe I'm wrong.  Afterall, Mr. Inge was willing to go down to Toledo, right?  Character is a big part of this 2011 team.)

What do you all think the Tigers should do as Zumaya reaches free agency?

We have to at least sign him to a base-level contract and keep him around

Otherwise, you know he’ll sign with another club an have some sort of epic rebirth. It’s just the way it works with the Tigers.

any sense of debt to Tigers?

the tigers have stuck with him for a few years with little production in return
if the tigers don’t sign up would anyone else?

If I'm Zumaya, you stay with the Tigers organization

People who are familiar with the injuries and will be sure to make sure more injuries don’t occur. If he goes elsewhere, I think the possibility of hurting himself again grows.

Fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings.

This will sounds nuts

If I’m Zumaya, I go see the Phoenix Suns training staff. They do everything short of witch craft and guys stay healthy. Ask Grant Hill—his career was over and they brought him back. Remember him?

Seriously. The Suns.

What? Yeah, I see you guys looking at me! As if you’ve got a better idea.

Just as long as he doesn't take Gerald Laird with him

Zumaya still has so much potential I think the Tigers will offer him a contract....

…and he should sign it, have a great season and THEN become a free agent. I don’t believe he will end his career in Detroit but I think he will pitch there next year

Provide him a incentive ladden minor league deal

Give him a bonus for making the big club (he should if healthy but that will protect against injury while pitching in Spring Training) and then step up bonus’ for games played.

I loved watching him in 2006

But I simply don’t think that he’s ever going to be an effective MLB pitcher ever again. Too many injuries, too much time on the shelf.

He’s pitched 126 regular-season innings since the end of 2006. You can’t average 25 innings a season over five years and come back to your prior performance.

Never Should Have Converted Him To Relief

They said his arm wouldn’t hold up as a starter.

However, he has had a lot more problems with injuries since he was converted to the bullpen.

It couldn’t have been any worse as a starter.

Zumaya

Let him go! He is a waste of money. The Tigers have been patient and he can’t pitch. Matt Anderson was more productive than Zumaya.
