WSJ says Tigers-Phillies World Series would be "historic" for pitchers
The Wall Street Journal today looked past the division and championship series to consider the concept of a Detroit-Philadelphia World Series, specifically the likely Verlander-Halladay Game 1 pitching matchup.
According to writer Matthew Futterman, they'd be a better and more competitive starting pitcher pairing than Sandy Koufax vs. Whitey Ford in 1963, Koufax vs. Jim Kaat in 1965, Bob Feller vs. Johnny Sain in 1948, Bob Gibson vs. Denny McLain in 1968 or Greg Maddux vs. Orel Hershiser in 1995.
