just no.
with a little more plate discipline, Ajax could be similar if not better than Jones. And to trade Turner and maybe Jackson to upgrade a position that we’re okay at… while there are much more pressing needs elsewhere? can’t say that’d be a very smart idea.

Austin Jackson’s stats last year (age 24, 2nd year) compare very well with Adam Jones, 2008 (age 22, 3rd year / first full). I see a very similar development path and I’d bet that Austin Jackson, 2012 will look a lot like Adam Jones, 2009.
Austin Jackson isn’t a problem (although having him lead off is). Adam Jones isn’t a solution. We shouldn’t be using young talent along these lines.

Do these people who say Just No want Cespedes?

I voted No. Just No.
Because “None of the above” wasn’t listed. I’d trade anyone in a deal that greatly benefits the team. None of those trade packages did that. They were lateral moves at best. I won’t make a trade just for the sake of making a trade.
I’d much much rather spend money on a Free Agent like Cespedes, than give up a package of MLB talent and prospects for Adam Jones. I wouldn’t trade for Cespedes either for that kind of haul.
No.
I just don’t see Jones as that much of an upgrade. I’d like to see a better hitter in the lead-off spot, and let AJax hit #2.

I can't think of a worse idea than AJax at #2
Well, I can it I’m trying, but most involve booze and guns.
AJax brings absolutely nothing to the table that you would want from a #2 hitter. The 170 K’s don’t play to badly at #1 because there’s rarely anyone on base (especially with Inge at the bottom of the lineup…zing!). As a #2 hitter, you need to limit your K’s and put the bat on the ball in order to advance the runner. Or, you need to have a decent OBP that will play well in front of your best two or three hitters on the team. AJax does neither of these particularly well. He’s best suited as a #9 hitter.

Jones is a fine young player that almost any team would like to have.
I’d love to him too, but I’d only give them below market value, like Delmon Young, and some fringe prospects. The problem is that the Orioles asking price for him was “Jurrjens, Prado, and two other premium guys”. That’s a heck of an asking price.
On the Braves side, the asking price for Jurrjens is a Zach Grienke like prospect package. For Prado they want an outfielder and a premium 3B prospect (like Nick Castellanos)
The Tigers don’t want to trade Turner or Castellanos either, but they will listen to offers. It will take a HOF type player, like Miguel Cabrera, to pry away either prospect from the Tigers. Adam Jones is not even close to being that player. Jurrjens and Prado aren’t either.
The asking price for any of these players is crazy high, but they are not untouchable. No deals involving these guys are ever going to get done unless there is some kind of fire sale or they get an offer they can’t refuse. In January, that’s not going to happen.
According to some reports they offered
Prado and Jurrjens and a prospect or two with Baltimore still refusing. Not sure I trust the report but I think it’s safe to say we’re not going to offer enough.
