Open Topic - What video games do you play?
For the past month, I've been playing Assassins Creed Revelations on my Xbox. My Total Synch is 78%, so I'm getting close to finishing. Just wondering what game to get next.
The game before that was Deus Ex Revolutions, which was an excellent game. I loved the original Deus Ex too when it came out 10 years ago.
I got Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas on Steam over the Holidays since they only cost $5 each. I haven't played any Fallout games before. Are they any good and worth playing?
I hear Elder Scrolls V: Skyrm is great, but was thinking that I should play Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion before I get into that game. Is it worth skipping Oblivion?
I love Sid Meier's Civilization also. I still like playing Beyond the Sword, so I haven't tried Civ V yet. Has anyone played Civ V? I've heard some mixed reviews for that game.
MLB 2K12 release date is March 6th. Anyone plan on getting that game?

RTSes are awesome
Warcraft III, Dawn of War, Age of Empires, Company of Heroes… It’s too bad the online communities murder any newb who dares to try to play online.

I've got a 99% synch in AC: Revelations right now.
Pretty much just have to get some Guild Challenges finished and a couple other things and I’ll be at 100%.
Other then that I’m not much of a gamer. I’m a big Tekken fan so every once in a while I’ll go on a Tekken binge, but I’m not a huge fan of the 6th one so I’ll whip out my PS2 and play 5. Basically though I just have a random assortment of all sorts that I play on occasion.
MLB2K series and the NHL series from EA
only 2 games I bother buying and playing
Raburn-Santiago '12
ALL THE GAMES
No, but seriously. I’m one of those “games are art” dorks, so my favorites are kinda predictably Bioshock and Psychonauts. In general, I’m a sucker for really immersive RPG’s (preferably with guns- I hated Oblivion). The Fallout series are my favorites: I love the aesthetics in Fallout 3 (game gives me the willies) and the art design is my thing since I like art deco and 50’s Americana. I also really like Borderlands- no plot to speak of, but the loot system is cool, as is the art design.
I also like platformers. If you get a chance to check out the Ratchet and Clank series (on the PS2), do so. The newer ones (for the PS3) are kind of kid oriented, but the original trilogy (especially Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal) has this delightfully satirical sense of humor that takes on the hero genre.
Also Portal. Portal rocks.

The Bioshock series is incredible
And you think Fallout 3 is creepy? I live in DC. I found where my house would be in the game. THAT’S creepy.
Out of morbid curiosity
what was in its place?

Some sort of run-down building (descriptive for FO3, I know...)
I don’t remember exactly what it was, it’s been a couple years since I played it.

BioShock was an out of body experience
I haven’t played BioShock 2 though. Was it as good as the 1st one?
It's tough to say
I knew more of what to expect with Bioshock 2, so it wasn’t the same “OH MY GOD THIS IS AMAZING” feeling that I had with the first title, but it was still awesome.
by Rob Rogacki on Jan 15, 2012 10:37 PM EST up reply actions
No
It was okay, worth playing for a reasonable price, but the storyline was nowhere near as good. The combat was cool, but it didn’t have the same replay value that Bioshock did (at least to me- I played the thing six times in a row).

Oblivion was awful
Morrowind was much better. I actually just finished Fallout 3 last week, loved that one. I’m trying to avoid getting started on Skyrim, nobody should have enough free time to play Skyrim.
I'll play just about anything
I thought Fallout 3 was impressive, but the gameplay was a little slow for my taste. That, and you don’t really have enough free time in grad school to truly enjoy an RPG. I do like the fact that I got the game for $10 though. Hell of a deal.
The Bioshock series is awesome. Period. One of the most creative and innovative games since the first Halo came out, IMO.
I’ve only played the first in the Assassin’s Creed series (which was pretty repetitive), but I’ve heard great things about the rest. I have a few other games to finish before I get into those, however.
I’ve played every Call of Duty title since the first Modern Warfare and still suck at multiplayer. That, and the formula is starting to get very repetitive. Same with Gears of War, except I haven’t played the 3rd one yet. Waiting for my brother to let me borrow it to save myself $50. I’m a fan of the storyline of that game, though.
I just bought NBA 2K12 recently and have been very impressed, though I doubt this is an audience that would care. It’s easily the most realistic basketball game I’ve ever played, but I haven’t gotten into the playoffs yet to see how realistic the biased officiating is. Judging by how bad I am at it, however, I probably won’t even get that far.
MLB 2K12 is a must-buy simply because Verlander is going to be on the cover. I’ll need to find a Taco Bell before I pitch with JV, however.
I also like racing games. I’ve only played Forza 2, so I’m not sure if it’s worth it to get 3 or 4. Those games are like car porn though. I’ve also plowed through just about every Need for Speed title on the 360, except for Shift (and Shift 2? Is that out yet?). I was really impressed with Hot Pursuit and equally disappointed with The Run, their latest title. The game itself was cool, but the story mode was waaaayyyyyy too short and there’s not really much else to do. I beat it in a week (playing for only like an hour a day) and traded it in.
And Rockstar Games can simply do no wrong right now. Everything they have put out since GTA III has been absolutely phenomenal. GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, they’re all awesome. I can’t wait until GTA V comes out.
I’ve only played Forza 2, so I’m not sure if it’s worth it to get 3 or 4
If you want a racing game, get Gran Turismo. It is leaps and BOUNDS ahead of Forza. The physics of Gran Turismo is scary life like (especially if you have the wheel). Forza is definitely ok, but Gran Turismo is where it’s at for racing games.
If I had a PS3, I would
Sadly, the Gran Turismo series has yet to share the goods with XBox 360.

online service is hardly a selling point.
XBox’s format became outdated months after it’s release. Playstation still has growing room without having to make a new system.
I bought my XBox when Halo 3 was coming out
So it was a no-brainer for me. Short-sighted? Probably. Do I regret it? Only when I come across a blu-ray movie.

AC: Revelations, Skyrim, with a mix of Halo Reach somewhere in there
Still gotta finish AC and Skyrim, with Reach in there for pure entertainment purposes…

Where to start.
Consoles I own: Atari 2600, Colecovision, NES, Master System, Commodore-64, Amiga, 486, Genesis, SNES, TG-16, NEO-GEO, Gamegear, Gameboy Advanced, 3DO, PSX, Saturn, Neo-Geo Pocket, Neo-Geo Pocket Color, Dreamcast, Gamecube, X-Box, PS2, DS, PSP, PS3, Wii, X-Box 360, two Android devices and my PC.
Games? Too many. I dislike FPS though. I mainly play simulations and the like. I own… I have lost count on games. Somewhere 300 or 400 or so games across all systems, maybe more. I’ve lost count, to be quite honest.
I have a grand idea: let's win a game.
damn
you are the first person i’ve known who has more systems than me. i feel so inadequate now.
Big fan of FPS, except the modern warfare style. aka, i like to be able to fight back when someone is shooting at me, so Halo, Gears of war (the third incarnation of which is consuming my gaming soul at the moment), and things of that nature.
also a big RPG guy, and i’ve been playing Bethesda games since Morrowind. Loved Fallout 3, especially since i was born in the DC area, so it was kind of cool to explore stuff i’ve heard about or seen before.
I have most of the squaresoft collection (note, not square-enix). so all the main final fantasies, the chrono trigger series, etc.
Also, football games. I tried baseball, but i could never get over the clunky mechanics in them, whereas the madden series seems a lot more polished for gameplay.
I Like Pie
How the hell do you not have a N64?

I don't like FPS either
There’s too much of a focus on multiplayer, and the games generally only get harder by increasing the health of baddies, which seems cheap.

The Show is way better. If you have a PS3 it’s no contest on which baseball game to get.

I play RBI Baseball.
I tried RBI Baseball 3 but it sucked.
Sometimes I play Tecmo Super Bowl, but not much. Too easy in preseason and too annoying to try to get through a regular season.
Always preferred Baseball Stars

Seems to be a big RPG crowd
Football is ending so it is getting back into video game season and I need a new one to play until Opening Day (personally I just don’t care much for Hockey or Basketball). I tend to be a few months behind, so I haven’t played anything even mildly new, as of right now I am thinking, Fallout: New Vegas, War in the North, or Deus Ex Human Revolution. Anyone have input/suggestions?
I love FO New Vegas, though it's not as good as FO3
I’ve also heard good things about Deus Ex.

MLB The Show all the way.
Not even debatable. Its just so polished and well made. However, im thinking im gonna put the 2K12 cover on top of it this year because of JV.
I Agree.
The Show is the first video game in a long time that has kept me interested for the entire year.
It is challenging enough to keep me into it, without quitting.
My brother got me Killzone 3 for Christmas, and I like to play it online as well— I just completely suck at it compared to all of those other online gamers.
Oh, almost forgot— the new NBA JAM is getting a lot of play right now too.

Skyrim has a grip on my soul atm
Looked at my Steam stats and it said I played ~45 hours of it the past 2 weeks. Scary. though I know a dude who’s logged 70+ hours into it and got it around the same time I bought it (thank you Steam for your glorious sales).
Speaking of Steam sales, I was able to pick up Company of Heroes (all the expansions for $8), New Vegas ($5) and a couple others. Also love me some Civ 4 and BTS, haven’t tried Civ 5 yet.
Ever since I was able to play PC games, I kinda stopped playing console games. I still occasionally play BF3, Arkham City (awesome game) and Gears of War 3 on 360.

I used to love this game so much
Haven’t found one nearly as fun since then.
Currently when I play one it is which ever year of The Show I have, every couple years I buy the new one. Even then I only play Road to the Show.
How could I have made it all the way to the bottom of this page and not seen a single Minecraft reference?
I’ve logged easily 150 hours into that game, my pride and joy is a massive in-game model of the norse world-tree Ysdraggil.
Other than Minecraft, I play a lot of open world games. I’m not a big Rockstar fan, but I have been playing Prototype and Saints Row: The Third a lot, as well as Skyrim.
