The Seedlings To Stars 2012 Top 100 Prospects, #6: Jacob Turner
Our friends at Seedlings to the Stars profiled Jacob Turner over the weekend. He came in as their No. 6 prospect .
They wrote: "Turner should be a big, durable front-of-the-rotation presence, and he has three pitches with plus potential. He doesn’t turn 21 until May, and he should be a major league fixture right around his birthday."

There are question marks about Turner, but then . . .
. . . there are question marks about someone like Garza, too.
Turner, Castellanos, Porcello, AJax
To the Rays, for Hellickson and Longoria.
Sign Cespedes for CF.
Sign Oswalt to a one year deal, with one team option.
Print World Series tickets.

Meh.

Don't like that one?
How about Cabrera/Porcello/Smyly to the M’s for Felix/Ackley?
Sign Prince for 1st base.
Sign Oswalt.
Again … print World Series tickets.
(The Bowl games today are pretty boring)

Felix
Hes the one guy id gladly give up our 5 best prospects for…unfortunately..they’d want a jax or Boesch as well
by Wolverine119 on Jan 2, 2012 4:13 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
The five best prospects in the Tigers system aren't really enough to get the M's thinking about moving Felix.
They need MLB ready bats and The Cleaner and Boesch aren’t really enough either. The M’s are kind of a pretty mess but their needs and the Tigers haves don’t mesh well.
I have a grand idea: let's win a game.
Ehhh
If you laid Turner..Castelones…Smyly.. Crosby..Brantly..Vasquez & a jax… They’d be crzy not to consider that… & I would only do it minus ajax……But honestly…the Mariners got no chance in that division for a couple years… They should shop Felix..maybe even Ackley for the right crzy haul.. Although trading a home grown future HOF in Felix..is prolly a tough sell
by Wolverine119 on Jan 2, 2012 4:28 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Because the M's have some pitching on the way and need bats.
Those players do nothing. Consider is fine but taking? Not a chance. They’d be “crzy” to trade for anything but MLB ready players for someone like Hernandez. Austin has barely an offense and the M’s need bats more than anything. Your fantasy trade scenario really does very little to improve the other side with any certainty. Try to look at the view from the other side with an M’s homer perspective instead of just a Tigers’ homer perspective.
I have a grand idea: let's win a game.
Longoria
The rays are not trading a guy that is under what is widely considered the most team friendly contract in baseball..except maybe the one that Matt Moore just signed….. To put it this way..if we called Tampa & offered Verlander & Cabrera for Moore & Longoria… They would begin laughing hysterically

Yup
But like I said, these Bowl games are boring(on what planet do the Ohio State and Penn State football teams play in a Bowl game? Is there no integrity left in the world?)
How about Cabrera/Porcello/Castellanos/Turner to the Dodgers for Kershaw/Kemp?
lol

How about Boesch Turner Crosby Castelones & Brantley for Ichiro &.Ackley?

I got it
How about Purcey for Sizemore?

The only thing that makes that statement funny
Is that it actually happened. Otherwise, that’s just a bad joke

How about Pauley for Sizemore?

If the Cubs want to trade
Then Turner/Castellanos/Oliver/Smyly/Fields/Brantley for Castro/Garza.
Trade Peralta/Ajax/Porcello to the Marlins for Hanley. Move Hanley to 3B.
Sign Cespedes for CF. Sign Oswalt.
Cespedes, Castro, Hanley, Cabrera, Victor, Avila, Boesch, Young, Raburn/Santiago
Verlander, Garza, Fister, Scherzer, Oswalt
My work here is done … lol

Wouldn't that be "waaaaaay TOO hard"?

how did this turn into a trade fantasy post?
"I'm a simple man. I like pretty, dark-haired women and breakfast food" - Ron Swanson
Because it's the off-season and most folks like playing video game trading post.
I mean, I set OOTP to “standard rosterbater” trade setting and landed Curtis Granderson from the Yankees for Delmon Young. IT CAN HAPPEN!
I have a grand idea: let's win a game.
I think I need to do a "post your trade ideas here and no where else damn it" thread

Most don't even read the original post
They just see a blue box and just start typing what ever goofy ideas that pop into their heads. P.S. I really like what I saw in Turner last spring in Lakeland. That being said, If it’s a 1 for 1 deal, I probably would trade for Garza too. He already is what Turner MIGHT BECOME. We can just hope it doesn’t become a Smoltz for Alexander deal.
I've got a flash thought here on that post
Think: “Men in Black”, and Tommy Lee Jones.

have you seen me try to make a joke?

My 'trade ideas' were obviously over-the-top, tongue in cheek
sarcastic, and poking a bit of fun.
I’ll remember to leave those kinds of posts for gameday?

Oh I understood those but there are others who'll go full two fists of steam powered rosterbation to the relaxation station when they get a whiff of uh, rosterbating.

C'mon ... admit it
You’re pretty proud of that word, “rosterbating”. Ain’t ya?
Didja trademark that thing? Will we be seeing it on tees and mock turtles this spring?
It’s a fine word. I’m gonna send ya a ducat every time I use it. Would you send me your paypal account?

So, wait, those news "stories" aren't jokes?
I’ve been looking at this website all wrong!
I have a grand idea: let's win a game.
Kurt,Could you get BYB to do a public service announcement about the epidemic levels of rosterbating?
Detroit Tigers: 2011 AL Central Champs
My question
If the organization is so high on Turner, why haven’t they brought him up and thrown him to the wolves like they did with Porcello when he was twenty? Did they see Porcello struggle now and again and want to wait until Turner was ready? Or is it that the rotation is decent enough now that they can let him stay in the minors and develop (which would make sense to me)?
I don’t follow stories like that too closely, so any insight would be appreciated.
Mine own mind is mine own church.
Maybe . . .
. . . because they’ve given him a few mlb starts and got unimpressive results, while Porcello pitched his way onto the mlb roster in spring training and had a fine rookie year.
by rea on Jan 2, 2012 7:08 PM EST up reply actions
They didn't plan on using Porcello in 2009
It happened out of desperation. Bonderman didn’t bounce back after his blood clot. Nate Robertson and Dontrelle Willis weren’t serviceable anymore for unknown reasons. We gutted the farm system the year before when we traded for Cabrera/Willis. Rushing Porcello was about the only option we had at that time.
Right now with got a stock pile of arms that we can use in the 5th slot ahead of Turner. We could even grab a someone like Brad Penny to pitch in that 5th slot. Our starting rotation is in better shape right now than it’s ever been. Porcello, Scherzer, and Fister are contract controlled and provide a lot of surplus value. Verlander is the only guy breaking the bank, but he’s worth it.
Rosterbating
For the record..while I like Oswalt…or joking around about trades….Colon or Mahaloum would be alright to finish the offseason..hopefully during the season the price drops on a Prado..some bat and/or elite pitcher will become available…& ya wont be bidding against 24 teams that think they can contend
