Dave Dombrowski on Prince Fielder: "Not a good fit."
Dombrowski says Fielder isn't a good fit, but it sounds like they may have actually given thought to the idea.
The scary thing is his last sentence and using the phrase, "at this point."

Eh, I wouldn't read too far into the last part
DD realizes that Prince doesn’t really have a place on this roster after the 2012 season. You want to know what’s actually scary? I had a dream last night that the Tigers somehow voided V-Mart’s entire contract.
So why not...
Agree with Boros to sign Fielder to a deal that is fair (to him and the team) but without a no-trade clause. Use him as our DH for a year, with occasional spot starts at 1st to keep his hand in and to give Cabrera time off as required.
Then, when Martinez returns, trade Fielder to a team for prospects or whatever else we need.

There is no way Fielder would agree to that
He wants to choose where he ends up (hence, why he’s a free agent) and won’t agree to be at the Tigers’ mercy after a season in Detroit.

There is nothing I would like more than to see a Fielder on first base in Detroit again.
With those who don't give a damn about baseball, I can only sympathize. I do not resent them. I am even willing to concede that many of them are physically clean, good to their mothers and in favor of world peace. But while the game is on, I can't think of anything to say to them. ~ Art Hill
"Not a good fit"
in other words, he doesn’t fit the budget.
If he did sign a one year deal, expect it to be for $ 25 million plus.
What we’re seeing here is vintage Scott Boras. He will hold out, hold out and hold out. Then, the decision will be based on three factors. Money, money, and money.
He’ll wind up in DC, I think.

Personally, I'm starting to buy into the Fielder on the Rangers talk.

Rangers aren't as likely now
considering they spent $60M on Darvish

Supposedly they have the money for both.

Yeah
And they haven’t deferred money for a while. So they can always do that.

I think he will go to DC too
Ted Lerner is the richest owner in the MLB. If they are serious about winning, they need to at least throw Fielder an offer.
This probably won't have much of an impact on Washington's decision
but they just re-signed Michael Morse to a two-year deal.
Baltimore isn't out of the picture
Got this bit on MLBTR:
“Are we going to get him? I don’t know. If we don’t, we’ll look for someone just like him,” said Duquette when asked about the possibility of signing Prince Fielder according to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com. “There are some players that are attractive to us that we might be able to sign as a DH. That’s still possible.”
Not sure what he means by “just like him”. Pujols is already signed.

"Not a good fit"
Is this what he meant?

If I only had one blur mark to place on this image
I sure as hell wouldn’t have wasted it on some cashier’s face.
