Tiger Press Conference Thursday to Announce Fielder Signing
According to Jim Bowden of ESPNxm (via Twitter), the Tigers will hold a press conference later today at Comerica Park to announce the signing of Prince Fielder to a nine year, $214 million contract. The deal is reported to pay Fielder annual salaries of $23 million for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, and $24 million through the 2020 season. The deal is said to be loaded with incentives for top ten MVP finishes, All Star appearances, silver slugger and Hank Aaron awards, and gold glove awards. Exact time not yet announced.
Update from Kurt: Nothing official in my e-mail box yet. If they do hold a sit-down conference today, it will be sort of short notice. But not unheard of, I guess.

Well
Here’s hoping ESPN has coverage of it. I’’m sure one of the local stations will pick it up, but I love all the hype and media discussion we’re getting as a result of this. It’s refreshing.
MVP, Playoffs
Try being an Indians fan.
Most arguments are really about context.

Alright, now that they've released the contract, doesn't seem such a big deal
Nothing major in terms of additional cost unless he wins a bunch of MVPs, which I’m completely OK with him doing
What's the next shock wave?
Jackson, Castellanos and Smyly to the Braves for Bourn and Jurrjens?
Pass
I like Bourn, but Jurrjens is overrated.

I’m pretty sure Jair Jurrjens is Dutch for Tommy John
