Prince Fielder deal announced by Tigers
The Tigers officially announced what we all already knew: They have signed Prince Fielder through 2020. The press conference is set for 2 p.m.
Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said in the press release:
"Prince Fielder is one of the premier offensive players in the game of baseball and we are extremely excited to add an all-star caliber player like him to our lineup.
"The addition of Prince is a testament to the organization's continued commitment to fielding a championship club."
MLB.com's Jason Beck has an update on the money end on his blog.
Details of the contract are also coming out in the report - $23 million in each of his first two seasons, followed by a $24 million annual salary for the ensuing seven years. He also has plenty of incentives: $500,000 for AL MVP with $1 million if he's a repeat winner, $200,000 for second thru fifth place, $100,000 for top 10, $100,000 if he's an All-Star starter, $50,000 for a reserve spot, and $100,000 each for a Hank Aaron award, Silver Slugger, Gold Glove, or Sporting News or Baseball America postseason All-Star honors.

signing
with this great signing.where do we go now? now that cespedes is a free agent do we still make a push for him? i think we should! a.j is still a great defender but i think we got to at least get someone into left field to cover ground.i know everyone is gonna say we dont have the money now and to wich i say “yes we do” if were willing to go this far,the tigs will go a little further i think.also, there are trade possibilities also.

With insurance collected on vmart
Payroll will be at 120 mil—-there is still wiggle room and this doesn’t completely tap out the Togers finances if the right deal comes along. Payroll isn’t as big of an issue as people make it sound

Tigers Payroll and why I don't care
There is no salary cap and I think the Yankees are the only team that has ever had to pay a luxury tax, therefore I don’t give a shit what the Tigers payroll is. Mike Illitch is worth close to the value of that planet that was discovered that was made of diamonds. Terry Pegula, owner of the Buffalo Sabres said it best, “I don’t own a sports team to make money.”
As long as the team is competitve and stands a chance to win the WS I don’t care what he spends and if the payroll is approaching $150MM it doesn’t bother me, spend all you want, just bring back a World Series title.

age...
I think this is an excellent signing in the short term, but is Prince going to still be worth 17 million or so when he’s 34, 35, 36? We saw what happened to his dad’s numbers when he crossed the age of 33.
