In signing Fielder, Ilitch isn't stretching dough
Excellent article by Bill Shea of Crain's Detroit Business breaking down the Ilitch business empire and its implications for the Tigers' payroll.

This article is clearly wrong
Illitch is now dead broke. This is the worst transaction in the history of all business. That much is obvious to us all.
I especially liked where Bill made the point
That Ordonez’s and Guillen’s expired contracts equal Fielder’s contract this year, net zero overall payroll implication. (Of course, you’ve got to find somebody to replace one of them on the roster, but that’s fairly trivial.)
"Virtually all tactical ploys—the sacrifice bunt, the stolen base, the hit-and-run—operate on average to reduce run scoring." -- Eric Walker
Sure shows how much deadweight those 2 were
when you turn Magglio and Guillen’s spot on the payroll into Prince Fielder.

Why won't the media talk about the priceless gemstones embedded deep in Fielder's stomach fat?
There’s more than one way to fund a secret stadium project.
There's rich...
filthy rich, and then ludicrous rich.
Look at it another way – the Tigers ENTIRE player payroll this year is 5% of the Ilitchs’ personal fortune.
FIVE PERCENT.
No wonder Mike didn’t bat an eye at Fielder’s contract per annum. It’s pocket change.
