So me and my buddy were having a debate last night over Al Alburquerque's potential to be the Tigers' future closer.
My opinion on the matter that it is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to speculative to anoint Alburquerque the job so quickly. He's only played 2 parts of 2 seasons and has already had stress fracture in his elbow corrected by the infamous Dr. James Andrews. And even when healthy, Alburquerque has been passed over for saves by Benoit, Dotel, Coke, and of course Valverde, over the past two years. Even with a bullpen shake up, some of these guys are going to stay. I don't see any opportunities for him any time soon, and it's not like he's THAT young (he's 26).
If we are to speculate for saves that far in the future, I'd rather take the Tigers' 22-year old minor league pitcher of the year, and a guy being groomed to be a closer.
What do you all think?
And what's the chance that either have of getting to 30?
