I don't normally pay a ton of attention to other teams' minor league players unless I'm looking for someone that Boston should be trying to acquire, but I have to admit that Castellanos has caught my eye. Not because I think Boston should acquire him, but because his career seems to be advancing at the same rate as the Red Sox' current top prospect Xander Bogearts. For those not in the know, Bogearts is a 19 year old Aruban shortstop who many believe will have to move to either third base or the outfield as he ages and his body fills out to meet his power potential.
So what's going on with Castellanos? Are his issues with AA just from a player who hasn't yet adjusted to the better pitching at a higher level? Could his issues offensively be connected to a change in defensive positioning? I noticed while looking him up that he played more than half of his AA games in right field, how is he performing defensively? Finally, how does he compare to our Aruban shortstop? Am I right to think that these two players are comparable, or am I way off base?
