Sadly, the the season is over. While some will furiously begin dreaming of trading for Elvis Andrus and other targets, I have decided to put fingers to keyboard to appreciate perhaps the most controversial Tiger in 2012. So please sit back and enjoy my "Ode to Delmon" (Italics added for a "poetry-esque" feel)
He came here from Minneapolis in a flash
His first at-bat ended with a slow home run dash
Nelson and Oliveros were all we gave
If Delmon was a troll left field was his new cave
"We hate his WAR!" Some people said with great disgust
To which other fans replied "In Delmon we trust"
Last year he put the evil empire in their place
We saw his talent, what a most curious case
They lost to the Rangers, he clobbered two dingers
With a tough loss like that disappointment lingers
Controversy in New York added to the fire
Fans wished for Leyland to treat him like a spare tire
He killed many rallies with twenty double plays
But he did hit dingers in consecutive days
The count of Delmon haters tremendously grew
The thought that he had no tools was seemingly true
People wonder how he was a number one pick
Some said he sucked life out of the team like a tick
Round one of the playoffs he hit two thirty five
His likability stock was taking a dive
Then came the ALCS Delmon's time to shine
His game one home run barely hooked right down the line
He hit another colossal bomb in game three
The hit very much satisfied the great JV
Once again he showed the Yankees who was the boss
He was a big part of the Yankees fourth straight loss
"Oh no!" The fans said, "Delmon playing in left field!"
The fans knew his awful defense would be revealed
Against San Fran Delmon's defense did not kill them
The Tigers failed despite the starters throwing gems
Tigers made the Giants pitchers feel in heaven
But all along Delmon hit three fifty seven
He set a franchise record for his round-trippers
The man he surpassed celebrated Yom Kippur
Alas with free agency his time may be done
For this fan watching Delmon has been very fun
So I hope you all don't remember his strikeouts
Let's remember Delmon for his colossal clouts
