Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Joaquin Benoit is in the best shape of his ... wait, what?

Pitchers and catchers reported today. You already knew that. According to our favorite beat writers, nothing has happened. A light game of catch, maybe. Justin Verlander is off to find a golf course. And Miguel Cabrera is in the best shape of his life. (Who am I, Craig Calcaterra?)

The AP hasn't moved any photos of Cabrera, so I couldn't use anything in the post. But if you scoot on over to the Detroit News or Free Press, you'll find stories on Cabrera, as well as photos of him playing catch in the fog. He's like some sort of Cabrera monster coming to attack the baseball. Or something. But OK, he's not actually in the best shape of his life. He just 'trying to be' in the best shape of his life. So there is that.

Meanwhile, as you can see from this photo, Joaquin Benoit may not actually be in the best shape of his life. Maybe it's the camera angle. ... Yeah, it's probably not the camera angle.

I like to think of today as the Black Friday of baseball

It’s mostly just a tease of what’s actually to come in about a month and has roughly 1/100th of the excitement of Christmas/Opening Day.

Gee, the players get dissed if they don’t sign autographs, and they get dissed if they do?

Working out

Being in the best shape of your life increases your offensive output by between 0.7 and 3.0 percent. Full story at

We already have a reliever like that

I wonder if Valverde will come to camp in the worst shape of his life?

Again, as long as he keeps saving games

he could look like John Kruk nowadays and I wouldn’t care.

Maybe it's just me...

…but Benoit looks thinner than last year. Bad camera angle.

He looks a lot taller to me

or maybe someone took the picture from their knees.
