Nationals Actively Shopping John Lannan
On the heels of signing Edwin Jackson, it looks like the Nationals want to unload John Lannan. Personally, I think he'd be a great fit for us in the 5th starter role. Plus he's a lefty with serviceable numbers and decent stuff.
I'm curious what exactly it would take for us to acquire him. What do we think?

At least
The Nats won’t ask for Castellanos.
Meh
His numbers aren’t impressive enough that I’d rather have him over one of the younger pitchers gunning for the 5th spot. His FIP and xFIP were both well higher than his ERA was last season.
not impressive, but serviceable
if he could give us around 200 innings with about a 4 ERA, that’d be fine with me. if anything, he’d be better than Penny last year.
but I understand what you’re saying too. Below or Smyly might do just fine if they really want that last spot to go to a lefty.
Did we really just sign Prince Fielder? Holllllllllly sh*t.
do not like his peripherals at all
not sure i’d like to see him in detroit even if he played for free

honestly haven't looked that far into it
but I’ll take your word. not like it’ll probably happen anyway… I still think it’ll just be an open competition in ST to win that last spot.

Quite the contradictory quotes from Nats GM Mike Rizzo
“We did not acqire Edwin Jackson to trade another starting pitcher.”
= Not trading Lannan.
"[Lannan] is a major league starter, and he’s ready to help a contending team."
= trading Lannan

His peripherals are pretty ugly
I’d pass. Rather let the prospects duke it out in spring or sign a journeyman to a minor league deal instead of taking on his salary (5 mil) as well as trading any sort of prospect.

If they are going to trade for a surplus nat starter
I’d rather it be detwiler. Seems like a lot more upside, and he’s pitched out of the pen some. Could be a factor if/when turner or smyly etc. get ready.
