John Wagner of the Toledo Blade has a little late breaking news for us. He reports Inge's rehab assignment with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens has ended after three games. Inge says he will report to Chicago to rejoin the Tigers on Friday. Inge is is eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday.

Wagner quotes Mud Hens manager Phil Nevin on Inge:

"He was moving around well, and he's a great athlete. He was tested on some diving plays, and he looks as if he's ready to go."

Inge finished his rehab assignment with just one hit in nine at bats (.111) but he walked several times, including twice on Thursday. Inge told Wagner he will get his timing back, but added that he wasn't getting a lot of good pitches to hit.

Wagner wrote that Inge made several nice plays at second base.

Defensively, Inge was outstanding at second base. He made three putouts and had five assists without an error, and he nearly turned in a highlight-worthy play on a ninth-inning hit.

In past reports, Tigers manager Jim Leyland said he plans to use Inge against left-handed starters. If Leyland sticks to that, Inge may prove to be a useful piece of the puzzle. We shall see ... .
