Mariners 5, Tigers 4 Snap Reaction: Detroit swept at home by Seattle

With trout season opening soon, Jim Leyland told the umpire a whopper of a tale. Or argued about whether Gerald Laird was safe at first. Not sure which, really.

Snap Reaction: Holy crap this is getting old fast.

It started off like too many other recent games. The Tigers trailed 3-0 before the end of the first inning. Tigers starter Rick Porcello allowed a pair of singles to open up the frame. Justin Smoak later cleaned the bases with a one-out, three-run homer. Miguel Olivo added a four-bagger of his own in the fourth inning for the 4-0 lead.

Detroit cut into it in the bottom half of the inning Ryan Raburn drove in Don Kelly, both batters with singles. In the sixth, Brennan Boesch drove in a run with a single, then Miguel Cabrera hit a solo shot to knot things at 4-4.

The difference-maker came in the bottom of the seventh. Porcello issued a walk to Brendan Ryan, and Chone Figgins drove him in with a double for the 5-4 lead.

Detroit threatened in the seventh inning when Jhonny Peralta reached third base with one out, and the Tigers again threatened when they got the tying run to second in the ninth, but the runners were stranded both times.

Porcello took the loss, allowing five runs in 6 2/3 innings. At least he preserved the bullpen a bit? I'm reaching, I know. Don Kelly and Ryan Raburn both had two-hit games. Andy Dirks tripled.

Seattle swept Detroit. The Tigers fell to 10-9. Much better than last April, yet hardly fun to watch this one.
