White Sox at Tigers, lineups, Sunday, May 6

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland watches from the dugout during the first inning against the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park.

The important change today: Brennan Boesch is no longer hitting in the two-hole. Boesch, who was projected by many (myself included) to have a solid season due to batting in front of Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder, has been a huge disappointment. This morning, he has a batting average of .213 and an on-base percentage of just .234. At least he's hit for some power: Four home runs puts him in a second-place tie with Alex Avila, behind Miguel Cabrera's seven. Still, that does not justify leaving him in the No. 2 spot the lineup. Cabrera and Fielder can't drive on what is not there.

Dirks will take over the spot. He's batting .302 -- though his OBP is not good at .318. Dirks also has a .535 slugging. That's the kind of No. 2 batter Leyland likes to see, basically.

The Tigers manager looks like he wants to get out of town on a high note. Many complain about Leyland's "Sunday lineups," although he's not alone in those. But this Sunday, he's got all of his normal starters in the game against a White Sox starter with limited experience under his belt, Dylan Axelrod.
