As we all know Delmon Young is a bad baseball player. He doesn't walk, is slow, hits for average power and is a bad defender. Traditionalists like Jim Leyland think he is valuable because he hits for a pretty high average and he can drive in 80+ runs a year. However, using sabermetric stats his career WAR is 0.7. Just for fun I decided to create a team of players most similar to Delmon Young. This team is not that good.
C- Miguel Olivo ( Career .276 OBP)
1B- Mark Trumbo (Has a career 5.2% walk percentage, Couldn't think of anyone else)
2B- Yuniesky Betancourt ( Awful baseball player, WAR is 3.2, -52.8 Career UZR, 3.4% Walk percentage)
SS- Dee Gordon (-16.0 Career UZR, 4.6% Walk Percentage, -0.2 Career WAR)
3B- Edwin Encarnacion (Having a good year this year at DH but -55.7 Career UZR, Career WAR of 11.6)
LF- Delmon Young obviously. (Career WAR of only 0.7, -53.4 Career UZR)
CF- Adam Jones (Career UZR of -12.4, 4.8% Walk Percentage)
RF- Dayan Viciedo (4.9% Walk Pecentage, -4.4 Career UZR)
SP- Jeremy Hellickson (With this defense he would get crushed- of course who wouldn't- Hellickson is tremendously overrated. This year his ERA is 3.44 while his FIP is 5.20. He has been worth -0.1 WAR. )
Tell me what you guys think of this team and if there should be any changes.
