Chicago White Sox at Detroit Tigers
Time/Place: 7:00 p.m., Comerica Park
SB Nation Blog: South Side Sox
Media: Fox Sports Detroit, MLB.TV, Tigers Radio Network
Pitching Matchup: RHP Jake Peavy (9-9, 3.08 ERA) vs. RHP Doug Fister (7-8, 3.67 ERA)
Seriously, I am getting tired of facing Jake Peavy. This will be the fifth time that the Tigers have faced Peavy this season, which may be a good thing. In his last two starts against Detroit, he has allowed 10 earned runs in 12 1/3 innings and the Tigers have won both games. Peavy has returned to early-season form since his last start against the Tigers, earning a 2.63 ERA in 6 starts. He is only 2-2 and the Sox are only 3-3 during this time period, which included two losses to the Kansas City Royals (go figure).
On the other side of the diamond, Fister has not faced the White Sox yet this season. He allowed 5 runs on 14 (!) hits against them in 5 2/3 innings last season as a member of the Seattle Mariners, but this will be Fister's first start against Chicago in a Detroit Tigers uniform. He is 0-2 with a 3.51 ERA against them in his career but his numbers are fairly decent against anyone with more than 10 career plate appearances against him.
Outlook
Both teams will be looking to forget their previous series tonight with a strong effort. With the Tigers unable to hit their way out of a wet paper bag right now, I think we'll see a pitchers duel tonight.
Prediction
Fister gets a very Fister-like amount of run support.
