Anibal Sanchez to start for Tigers Game 1 of ALCS vs. Red Sox

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

It's Sanchez vs. Lester on Saturday

Anibal Sanchez will get the start for the Tigers when the American League Championship Series opens at Fenway Park Saturday. He'll oppose Jon Lester, who's getting the start for the Red Sox.

Things did not go so well for Sanchez his last time out. In Game 3 of the ALDS, Sanchez allowed not one, not two but three home runs. That was uncanny for a guy who allowed a league-low 0.4 home runs per nine innings during the regular season. In fact, to find the last game Sanchez gave up multiple homers in a game you'd have had to go back to 2012. More than likely it was a blip for Sanchez, who finished the regular season atop the AL in ERA with 2.57.  Sanchez also had a 1.77 ERA in 20 innings during the 2012 postseason, which also helped convince the Tigers to sign him to a longer deal in the offseason.

Lester had a 3.75 ERA for the Red Sox in 33 starts. He struck out about 19 percent of batters faced and walked 7 percent. In his only ALDS start this season he allowed two runs on three hits in 7⅔ innings.

The series opens at 8:07 p.m. Saturday. Here's the complete schedule.
