First..all is not lost..there are a few manageable solutions..however lets discuss a few facts..Prince Fiellder is a terrible one dimensional baseball player..he may be the worst defensive 1B I have seen in 50 years..and the metrics back up that fact..he is below average in every single facet of infield defense..pop ups. scoops..range factor..OOZ plays..catching pick offs..charging bunts..throwing..and all of those deficiencies were on full display in a 11 game playoff run. Prince Fielder is a DH..this is a huge issue..because he selfishly refuses to DH..it speaks to what has become obvious..Fielder proclaims..he is a team guy..but he isn't a team guy..running out on your team rather than answering qustions after game 5....not a team guy..and there are multiple other examples..let's move on..his issues are not real arguable.
Offensively..actually not terrible..even in a down year..his declining SLG rate and his truly declining BB rate..yeah a huuuuge concern..but the production is still solid and with some more dedicated conditioning and a tweak in his plate approach..his production has a chance to return to previous norms..
Trade value..welp..Prince's trade value is meager..so dont expect miracles..there is one huge fit..it screams do me for both teams..Texas is desparate for an infusion of power, especially at 1B..they have $$$, they also have a desparate need to play Jurickson Profar..the solution for Texas..trade Ian Kinsler..Kinsler is currently signed throigh 2018 at 17MM a season..Texas isn't especially happy with Kinsler these days..the 8MM offset could be easily bridged between the two teams..Texas also frees up $$ this season with the expiring contracts of both Joe Nathan and Nelson Cruz..so they have plenty of $$$..you know who needs a 2B..ya..the Detroit Tigers..they also need a leadoff hitter and speed..Kinsler has both..he could also be relocated to LF in favor of Hernan Perez..(more speed)..see how easy this is..
A move like this solves numerous issues..it moves Cabrera or Martinez to 1B..likely Cabrera ..and Castellanos to 3B..and the dominoes continue to fall..better speed..better defense..some $$$ savings..and suddenly some issues, speed...defense and base clogging are improved..
It creates multiple possibilities..there are other variations of this deal..you could actually add STL into the mix substitute Andrus for Kinsler and make it a 3 way deal..As for the no trade..Fielder isn't gonna complain about TEX..they are good..its a hitters paradise and best of all..no state income taxes..thats 1MM bucks in tax savings..
Bottom line..Fielder is moveable..likely the only place tthat makes sense is TEX
