ALDS Game 4: A's at Tigers starting lineups - Scherzer may pitch in relief

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Game 4 starting lineups for both the A's and Tigers have been announced. If needed, Max Scherzer is an option coming out of the bullpen.

Having won two straight and having the cushion of heading home for Game 5 if necessary, A's manager Bob Melvin made no changes to his starting lineup.

Oakland Athletics:

1. Coco Crisp, CF
2. Josh Donaldson, 3B
3. Jed Lowrie, SS
4. Brandon Moss, 1B
5. Yoenis Cespedes, LF
6. Seth Smith, DH
7. Josh Reddick, RH
8. Stephen Vogt, C
9. Eric Sogard, 2B

Dan Straily, P

Save for left field, Jim Leyland has elected to run with what brought him to the post season. There's no deviation from yesterday's lineup, including Jhonny Peralta in left field.

Leyland did admit he could use Max Scherzer in a relief stint today, but "the stars would have to line up just right." If the Tigers hold a narrow lead, it's possible Scherzer could pitch multiple innings in a setup role.  If so, Justin Verlander would get the start in Game 5.

Detroit Tigers:

1. Austin Jackson, CF
2. Torii Hunter, RF
3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B
4. Prince Fielder, 1B
5. Victor Martinez, DH
6. Jhonny Peralta, LF
7. Alex Avila C
8. Omar Infante, 2B
9. Jose Iglesias, SS

Doug Fister, P
