Lets look at the similarities. Yes, Brad Ausmus had a nice long playing career, but so did Buddy Bell and Alan Trammell. Yes, he knows the game of baseball, but so did Bell and Trammell. Ausmus is worthy of Hall of Fame consideration, but so too is Bell and Trammell. My point is the neither of those guys had prior managerial experience, we're all considered young when hired and in Bell's and Trammell cases never gained control of the locker room. In fairness to Bell and Trammell, neither man had a chance as the Tigers had no talent whatsoever and both Bell and Tram lost over 100 games in their first season. Trammell seamed like the perfect hire, after all he was a Tigers legend and World Series hero. Seemed like the perfect match but we see how it turned out. I wonder what Dave Dombrowski sees in Ausmus to make him think he's ready? Can Ausmus win the respect of the Tigers locker room? Will highly paid veterans like Miggy, Fielder and JV respect him? The window for the Tigers to win a World Series is closing fast so they better get it done this year or it might never come. I hope DD knows what he was doing when he made this hire.
