Miguel Cabrera finalist for 2013 AL Most Valuable Player Award

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The BBWAA announced Miguel Cabrera, Chris Davis of the Orioles and the Angels' Mike Trout as finalists for the AL MVP.

Miguel Cabrera's bid to win back-to-back American League Most Valuable Player Awards took another step forward today when the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced he was a finalist for 2013 MVP.

Joining Cabrera as an MVP finalist for a second consecutive season is Angels' outfielder Mike Trout. Also competing for the AL MVP is Orioles' first baseman Chris Davis.

Cabrera narrowly missed a second straight Triple Crown this season, a quest derailed by a lingering groin injury and fellow AL nominee Davis. Cabrera finished second to Davis in home runs and RBIs with 44 and 137, while leading the majors in hitting at .348, OBP at .442, slugging at .636 and with 1.078 OPS.

Cabrera has been raking in accolades left and right for his remarkable 2013 season. He's already won the Hank Aaron Award as the AL's top hitter, AL Most Outstanding Player and Player of the Year at the MLB Player's Choice Awards, and was named Sporting News MLB Player of the Year. All four awards were won by Cabrera in 2012 as well.

The AL and NL MVP Award winners will be announced November 14.

Also up for BBWAA honors are Max Scherzer, a finalist for the AL Cy Young and Jose Iglesias, who is nominated for AL Rookie of the Year.
