When Phil Coke allowed an RBI single to Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz in the top of the eighth inning, things seemed bleak for the Tigers. While only being down 3-2 and playing in the friendly confines of Comerica Park, the Tigers have been the worst team in the league in hitting after the seventh inning. Drew Smyly's excellent work to keep the game within reach seemed fruitless.
And then, lo and behold, the narrative was reversed by one swing of the bat of Jhonny Peralta.
Peralta's two run homer barely cleared the fence, but it might as well have been a 500 foot bomb considering how poorly the Tigers have performed in tight situations this season. The blast set off a celebration at Comerica Park, and it was clear that a weight had been lifted off this team's shoulders.
And what walkoff wouldn't be complete without a Gatorade shower?
Cold, yet so, so refreshing.
