Greetings, fellow Tigers fan. Or maybe you're a Cubs fan who just wants to see some playoff baseball. Or maybe you just like slow teams that score a ton of runs (my softball team!). Whoever you may be, it's likely you don't spend as much time here as someone like Dr. Rob. If you don't, then you may not understand our views on the Tigers. Listen up, because this should fill your every need and then some.
The Detroit Tigers are the American League Central Champions. Everyone knew this day would come. Seriously, there was never a doubt. That's not what 2013's about, anyway. Leave "making the playoffs" to the Indians. In the D, it's #WorldSeriesOrBust. With Peralta's return adding some juice (hohoho) to the lineup, there's no reason not to win it all!
What do we think of Jhonny Peralta here at BYB? He's made some bad decisions. It's totally up to you what to think about possession of banned substances. However, we will welcome him back with open arms because he's JHONNY PERALTA! ALL-STAR SHORTSTOP ON THE FIELD AND IN OUR HEARTS!
(Note: this opinion may be biased by the editor's love of all things Peralta. 27 forevah)
What do BYBers think of the 2013 season? A division title, over 90 wins, a 20 game winner on the staff, and the best hitter in the world help paint a rosy picture! Of course, beneath that rosy picture, there are some horrific images (PYTHAG, Brayan Pena's nipples), but for the most part it's been a good year.
Now, on to the title. What does The Narrative mean? Why do I keep capitalizing The Narrative? Why do they keep letting this clown write FanPosts on their site?
A) The Narrative is a compilations of all of the gut feelings and "narratives," if you will, of a long baseball season. Nick Swisher goes 10-16 over a series? The Narrative adds him as a Tiger killer. Porcello out-pitches Verlander for three starts? DFA VERLANDER!
B) Proper nouns. Duh. Just because I haven't taken 10th grade English doesn't mean I don't understand it.
C) It's impossible to ban me. I'm like Brandon Inge. I just keep coming back.
Anyways. On to the meat of the stuff.
Nick Castellanos Is a Bust
Tigers fans hoped that Castellanos would be the savior of the lineup. Rising over the ashes of the flaming wreck in left field, Nick was supposed to come straight from AA and hit .320 for the rest of the year. He didn't. Now, Dombrowski would be wise to trade him while he still has some value this off-season. It may be that he doesn't get Giancarlo Stanton, but he should still fetch Matt Harvey if we sell low. The Mets may need to throw in Wright. Details, details.
Rick Porcello is in the Bullpen
What? Why? If we decide to ignore 10% of his starts, then his ERA drops all the way below Verlander's! You gotta Porcello to make this fair! Verlander is struggling in September (not really true) throws a LOT more pitches per inning than, say, Scherzer (patently false), and obviously Porcello is never gonna face the Angels or Red Sox again!(well...)
Never let that bum play again. Why did Leyland keep starting him in a pennant race? Doesn't Leyland realize that Tuiasosopo is no good and should not be starting every day?
/ignores own clamors for Leyland to be fired three months ago for not starting Tuiasosopo every day
I could have sworn that he made a spot start or two when Sanchez got hurt. He was good. He should ave replaced Coke in the bullpen, that's all I know. Oh well. I'm sure Dombrowski had a reason to trade Alvarez to Miami.
The offense keeps waiting until late in games to score.
Waiting until the 9th to score six against the White Sox? Doesn't Leyland know that the team needs to attack early in games to be successful? Come on.
Oakland's gonna roll us
Oakland has a really good team. Between Colon, Balfour, Cespedes, and... uhh... that fellow with the beard, they have a lot of firepower! On top of that, they're really hot, which is always a concern heading into the playoffs. I wish the Tigers understood momentum better. Unfortunately, Leyland tries to lose games to show who's boss.
We only beat the Indians by one game
I knew the Indians were furrealz this year! Isn't it pathetic that with this payroll, rotation, and star-power* Detroit only barely escaped a total collapse? They should have locked the division up by Labor Day!

I don't even know. I've lost track of how he SHOULD be used, according to the fanbase. I could go any way and probably garner some support. Whatever.
